When your A4 ride starts surging usually you can get it under control by pressure on the brake pedal. It kinda holds it back and lets it settle down a little. My ride only surges when its trying to pull itself around at idle. Like at a stoplite or when your backing up.

Surging is really only at idle, when you start the car, or pull up to a stop light. Bucking is from lugging the motor, and will only happen in an auto when the verter is locked.
It can be reduced a lot in an auto by moving the lock up points up.
Then only way you're going to be able to get a big cam to drive like stock is by street tuning. A simple one time dyno tune is not going to cut it. You need to tune, see how the car acts after putting some miles on it and make corrections.

I get VERY MINOR surge with my cam everyonce in awhile, not often (kinda weird) more when its really hot 90+ outside. But she does buck big time, it's kind of funny, sometimes i'll roll through a parking lot doin it on purpose and see what kind of looks I get. lol some people look at me with a blank "WTF" look on their face...
Tuned my MadZ28 btw...

with and auto, you do want a bigger/looser stall with the bigger cams. I have an F14 w/3k~ stall. I get some BUCKING when creeping around in 2nd doing about 1500. Just have to give it/hold a little gas and its fine. But have a stall ready. My stall was good when the car was stock, but waaaaaaayyyyy to tight with the bigger cam. To where I get SURGING when sitting at a light with the A/C on. With the A/C off its fine, drives like stock. BTW, I have a very good tune.
