Default porting FAST intake and milled ETP heads

So I have my Iron block 402 ready to go (eagle crank, compstar rods, diamond -14cc) and ETP 245cc heads back from the machine shop, 64cc heads milled off .050" mathmatically produces 55cc, using cometic .040" head gaskets, looking about 11.5 area compression. INTMD8 from speed inc. specing a cam. Everything is ready to go, the machine shop was going to port the fast intake for me after I put the heads on the motor. Really I'd like to get the motor together next weekend.

What is everyones opinions on running an unported FAST 90 intake with ETP heads? Probley this winter i'd take the manifold off for porting or replace w/ sheetmetal and or harrop.

I've had .050" milled off the heads, could I run into some difficulty fitting the FAST intake as it is? I intend on grinding the tabs down (i've used the search button a few times)

With ETP heads which pushrods has everyone gone with? I have a set of 8.050 and 8.100 pushrods, will check length when cam goes in.

thanks

I used 8.125" rods with my ETP 245's with my 408 in my goat. As far as the porting goes, my heads are milled to 61cc and I had no problem with my Mamo ported FAST intake bolting right up. I checked it while It was still in pieces and it couldn't have fit better. Another 6cc smaller chamber shouldn't make such a big difference. However, keep in mind there isn't much material at the top/bottom of the intake runners on the fast so be careful how much you take off.

A stock unported FAST is better than an improperly ported FAST. Yes, it is possible to mess up and make it worse. Best bet is to have an expert do it or have them walk you through the do's and don'ts.

thanks guys, think i'm gonna order up couple sets of pushrods (8.075 8.100 8.125) Just so I don't get screwed and car wont' be ready for GTO nationals, are you going Doug?

Doug- What style of pistons do you have flat or dished? Are they ET specific pistons, judging you went with LME they are Wiesco pistons? Did you or one of your guys check PTV? was it close or have some room?

61cc 245heads? how much did they mill?

thanks!

That's like $350 in pushrods; just buy a $20 pushrod checker and do it right.

I would just open it up as much as I could w/o letting light into it. Just kidding. Pay a guy that knows like Tony@AFR and you can feel warm and fuzzy when you put it on........until you brake the oil pressure sending unit and you have to take it apart again and wait a couple of days to get a new one and put it back together. Sorry, I am ranting.

Ordered a 236/242 .615/.612 113+5 cam on XFI lobes and my collection of pushrods

Yep, I actually boogered up the first one I did for myself. After 5 or so its cake. You can easily blow through the intake if you get greedy.

So I found Milled 55cc ET heads and cometic .040 paper thin gaskets will not allow FAST 90 to fit. The manifold bolt holes become too narrow, I tried reaming out the bolt holes in bottom section of the FAST and sanding the tabs down- no go.

Put on a set of GM 6.0 MLS gaskets alls going smooth again, I got the bottom section of the FAST to fit.

The windage tray and oil pan on this GTO is tight, stacked 4 washers, had the slightest bit of resistance torquing down the oil pan and enough clearance for the rods. Like it was just touching the windage tray.

Motor is back together in the car, intake WILL NOT fit, the bolt holes won't line up. I'm gonna call ET on monday, looks like i'm gonna throw on some 243 heads for the mean time.

The bolt hole line up for the intake manifold is about 1/16" off, the intake bolt holes are too narrow. The only thing I could do is sand the tabs off the manifold?

I don't see how grinding the tabs down is going to change the relation of bolt hole and manifold alignment on them. Cause all the manifold will do is sink lower with no tabs, it won't alter the bolt hole alignment.

The more you mill off the heads, the closer the manifold bolt holes get to the deck.

The heads were milled .050" from 64cc.

Drill the intake manifold bolt holes/tubes to a larger diameter....if its close now you wont need a much larger hole than the factory (FAST) provided to be able to start all the threads and cinch the intake down. There isnt much else you would be able to do in this situation and its the easiest quickest fix for the problem you describe.

Good luck....let us know if that works assuming you give it a try.

Tony M.

PS....I would also grind a little taper in the leading edge of all the bolts to help guide them properly into the head reducing your chances of cross threading them.

Well I kinda gave up on drilling the intake, hogging out an $800 manifold and potentially stripping the holes on some ETP heads isn't cool. Since the ETP heads outflow even the FAST intake i've talked to a few some companies about a sheetmetal intake.

Thanks to Tom at speed Inc. I have a set of Dart 225 heads on the way, for the mean time..
