Default x4 and 918s

will the comp 918s be alright with the x4? i know the 918s say they are good to .600 lift and the x4 has .610 lift on the exhaust side. has anyone else here ran 918s with an x4?

Comp 921's or PRC Dual Golds.

Why risk it with the 918's ?

Def need some dual valve springs...the 918's will not handle the lift on the g5x4, you will just be begging for a valve spring to break. Go with the patriot duals, prc platinums, or the comp 921's.

918's wouldn't hold the X2, much less the X4.

Incorrect. The 918's are a lot more spring than people give them credit for. They originally were rated for .615 lift and can go even more if shimmed properly. They were down rated after comp released the 921's...probably just to sell more dual springs.

918's are a great spring in a nutshell.

The X4 is a .612. I'd go with Patriot Gold Dual Springs. That's my setup.

I am running the 918's and have had no problems, they would be fine in your setup, especially if they are free. How many miles on them? They are a great spring, and as others have pointed out they can handle it, as they are underrated.

I would suggest 921's or the Patriots

Your also not running a cam as big as the one he wants. The specs of your cam still fall within the limits of the springs, his don't. There's no way I would run the aggressive lobes like XE-R's with a single spring. Patriot/PRC duals are far cheaper than a valve lodged in a piston head.

$250 is also a far cry from $600. Valve springs are not a place to skimp out, and using used 918's on a aggressive cam is deffinatlly asking for it.

Unless they've revamped, they used to wouldn't hold the X2. There were multiple dyno's of X2 cams floating the 918's. They may be a good spring, I'm not doubting that, but for an aggressive cam set-up you'd be crazy to not run a dual spring.

I like the PRC's from Texas Speed. They're around $250 I believe and good up to a .660 lift. Of course the Patriots or 921's would also be great. Definitely don't go with the 918's though. You need a good spring for a large cam, and the 918's are a great spring, but are not made for a cam that large. If the springs are free, just sell them and buy the ones you need for your cam.

The 918's were originally rated at around .620" lift....I would shim them if I were going to run them with a cam like that. I have Patriot Golds that rock...but free is awesome.

Like what most other people in this thread have said, I would not run 918s with a cam as big as the g5x4. Its just asking for problems, just go with a good dual spring like Comp 921s or PRC dual golds and not worry about it.
