Everything Ive read says the cutover happened mid-year. Now surefire way to tell if youve got the old or new style without checking.

I have 7.4 Chromoly p.r.'s Louis at LG Motorsports told me 7200-7400 rpms even on my stock bottom end wouldn't be a problem.

The LS1\LS6 use the same oil pump..no difference..

On my '98 I have the shift points set at 6500 rpm with rev limiter at 6800. If/when I get better rod bolts I will set shift points up to 6800.

Limiter is at 7400 and I have hit it several times when on street tires, cause it starts spinning and revs to the sky in no time.

Several other cam only cars shift around 7200 and others shift as high as 7400 on stock bottom ends.

7,400 on stock bottom end?!

I wouldn't dream of spinning a stock bottom end that high. Do you have stock lifters too?

Good Poll. I've been wondering what people have been shifting at on stock bottom ends. Makes me not feel so bad for 6600.

Yep, and so do all the other cam only cars. I know that Rodney shifts his car at 7200, and Joe shifts his at 7400. Both cars have untuched heads, never been off the engine, so lifters are still stock.

They are pushing their cars hard in every way possible. I am sure they don't expect 50,000 mile reliability out of those motors shifting at those speeds, nor do they put miles on them at the rate that many daily drivers do.

Expect, no not really, but they are doing damn good so far. Keep in mind the trex came out over two years ago and Rodney was one of the first to run it. Theres no telling how many dyno/track passes he's got on the engine, and he drives the car alot from what I hear.

I don't have as many miles on my setup, but I've put almost 7k miles on it since the cam swap ( had 50k before) and it meets the limiter everytime I drive it on street tires cause it's impossible to shift as fast as it revs

If you daily drive the car there is no reason to spin it to 7k all the time.

May be a bit conservative, but I voted for 6800 based on the rule of thumb that you want to keep piston acceleration under 100,000 ft/s^2. That is the last even hundred RPM before 100k for the stroke and rod length of the stock LS1.

For whatever reasons, I am glad so many agree with me.

Mike

PS. I'm assuming post-2000 rob bolts of course. I plan to go with better lifters and titianium retainers to prevent valve float.

PPS. ARP bolt are so easy to install . . .

In my '01 I've got my limiter set at 6800, but I have my shiftlight set at 6400. I know I could wind it out to 6800 (hell I have before), but why chance it, and the longer my engine stays bolted together and running ... the better
