Best cam for A4/Stock Converter

The biggest I would go is 216/224 on a 115 duration. 224's suck *** on a stock verter.
Terry,you've been around for a long time and I'm just shaking my head reading this.
Cam,Springs,pushrods,fluids,gaskets -$600-$800
Used converter which will make the car 2 times faster than that small Cam -$250-$500.
To me changing the Cam is just a waste of $$ without a converter plus the converter is better to drive and faster at the track

I was thinking some used 918 springs would cost me $80, and a used cam $225 tops, but I know a PI 2800 would pickup just as much if not more. I can always do the converter later if needed...
So, you know someone who did a 224 on the stock converter? What kind of times did it run? I figure it must suck off the line, but seems like it should be OK from 4k-6.6k

I'm faced with the same problem, only thing is I'm also trying to run on a stock tune. I did some research and I'm going to install an LS1 hot cam which isn't that big but it works well with a stock engine. Here's an article where they put in an ls1 hot cam into a stock ls1 engine (except headers) and gained 49 hp. I'm not sure how well this will work with a stock converter but with my budget I dont have much choice. Cam specs are 219/228 .525/.525 on a 112 http://www.carcraft.com/howto/ls1_engine_cam_install/

when you talk about 224/224, this number is how much DURATION the valve stays open.. LIFT is how much the valve opens..
TR 224/224 have .563 valve lift that will have good low end torque, i agree if i it had a bigger lift then in order to get into power band, ull need to rev it higher and will sacrifice low end torque.. but with this cam, u can adjust the revlimit 6600rpm and it wouldnt drop between shifts.. i know this cause i tried this cam in my friends vette before installing a verter.
Another good thing about this cam is when you install a high stall converter or heads.. you wouldnt have to do a cam swap since it will give you good power on a 346ci. IMO, this cam will work gr8.
