There is no best cam - but the TSP MS3/MS4 cam will get you there with the right bolt-ons.

But so will just about all of the shop cams over 232...

Forum n00bert. We should start a count for the amount of times we see this post. Search mate, look at the dyno results sections and use the search function. Ask these kind of questions to people who work at cam shops instead of wasting space on the boards.

I like your goal of 400 hp with stock heads, but you'll need ALL the accompanying bolt ons to get there for the most part. Also, keep in mind that peak hp may not be the only number you want to concern yourself with. If you're keeping the stock rear gearing, certain cams will sacrifice low-end power to hit the higher peak numbers up top and this might not be the type of power band you want. Search and read... but welcome & good luck!

Ah, so many options. The TSP cams (MS3, Torquer) have all hit 400hp with stock heads. They have great service and great package deals. If you want a little more power under the curve and near the same peak hp, Thunder has some lower duration, higher lift cams that are delivering some very impressive numbers. And don't forget Futral F series cams and the LG G5x3 is also very popular.

you'll need headers, cam, springs, pushrods, gaskets, install, ls6/fast intake, and maybe port your TB.

If you want simple peak numbers, you can look at many of the off the shelf cams above a 23x duration as mentioned above. However, with a larger cam come's all the supporting mods. To setup an MS3 cam up properly one should have the following mods (in my opinion)

Full dual spring kit- PRC and Patriot Golds are just as good but cheaper than the comps
Hardened pushrods-7.400 length seems to be the norm, any sponsor will have them
LS6 oil pump-A ported one is nice, but not necessary
LS2 timing chain-A double roller is not needed and a PITA to install
Cam swap gasket kit-Again, any sponsor should have this
Full bolt ons-this means LT headers, catback, lid, LS6 or FAst intake, Ported TB or NW 90, UD pulley should be fine
Gears-With a 6-speed you'll want 4.10 gears. You might as well get a rear end girdle as well if you don't plan on buying a 12 bolt

You could do some safety mods just for the peace of mind including a tranny cooler, new plugs, new injectors and some suspension mods to keep the power to the ground.

There is no "best" cam. A high duration cam (usually on Xer or LSk lobes) will own the track but you will sacrifice drivability. A lower duration cam with LSk lobes will net you more hp/tq under the curve and still give you decent peak numbers- making it a blast to drive on the street. The best cam depends on your budget and what you want to get out of the car. Good luck.

On a side note, I know you said you searched and wanted to ask your own question because you hadn't seen a "Best Cam" thread. If you search, you will find at least 25 threads covering this with everyones opinion including off the shelf cams, custom cams, high duration, low duration, high lift, low lift, wide LSA, tight LSA. There is enough information to answer all your questions.

Check out this thread. Nice, very clean setup and great numbers. Something in that ballpark should be good for you.
