I am really unsure guys, as this is the first ls1 I have built, do you replace the side bolts for the main caps or reuse? I have no idea if they are torque-to-yield like the main main bolts, which have been replaced with ARP studs (which when I received, I was shorted 5 nuts, so I'm waiting to see if the seller will help me out). Please let me know guys, I'm coming down the back stretch and I want to get it done correctly and need this information.

 

Side bolts can be reused. Torque to 18 ft./lbs.

 

You can get to ARP stud nuts from summit for around $6.00 and come two in a pack, that were i got mine at when i lost one.

 

I reused the side bolts as well.

 

Great, thanks for the info! Trying to work out a deal with the seller to get them replaced, if not, at least I know where I can get some. I'll re-use my side bolts also, just wondered why the kit came with 10 extra washers (already used 1 under each nut) and 10 silver nuts (for the windage tray).

 

You can use the extra washers to space the windage tray away from the crank if you have a stroker 4" or bigger crank. The nuts can be ordered directly from arp as well.

 

Okay, that makes sense, I figured that's what they were for to be honest, but just wasn't sure as I've never studded an LS1. Thanks a bunch for the info.

 

you can buy individual bolts from GM, its like $2 a bolt for the side bolts, personaly id buy new ones for that cost.

 

What size exactly are the bolts? Are they 10mm x 1.25? Hope someone can help, about to order some arp nuts.

 

With ARP studs, torque the cross bolts to 19ft-lbs. Use a good RTV sealant under the bolt flange to prevent oil seepage.

 

Call ARP direct Firebird as they are very nice and will replace those bolt or studs if you got shorted. We reuse the OEM GM side bolts too.
