Default broken rocker stud

i broke a rocker stud off tonight clean down to the head. i've drilled a 5/32" hole and am trying to use a M6 easy-out to grab it but it's not doing anything. is there anything else I should do? would it be a good idea toweld something to it and try to take it out or do i need to pull the head and take it to a machine shop. a simple task to remove the valve cover and check a valve turned into this nightmare!!!

Was it loctited in place or anything? Heat would break the loctite loose if it was.

no, no loctite. it was on my passenger head, first valve to the front of the car. being my torque wrench probably failed it may have been torqued more than 22-30ft/lbs. i'm about to do a cam swap here soon and maybe I could get by just pulling one head, fixing, and doing those valve springs off the car... if it's that tight, notching and trying to use a screwdriver wouldnt work would it?

Either way that sucks that it borke off that far down. A weld might work, but an easy out or left handed bit set might work too.

it happened tonight so i'll see what needs to be done tomorrow. only way ill need to contact them is if i take the head off, which is what it looks like Im gonna have to do.. at least i'll only have to pull one head and not 2. The GM MLS 6.0 gaskets are not reusable, correct?

No, once you pull the head off the viton rubber coating will desintegrate. However the geaskets are pretty cheap.

When you say you broke it down to the head, how far down inside the rocker boss is it? 1/4 inch or less? Or is it more? If its close enough to the top, you can slot the rocker boss as wel with a dremel wheel and unscrew with a small screwdriver. If its further than 1/4 inch down, i wouldnt cut that far.

it was pretty flush but since I drilled it to try to easy-out it, it's below the surface. dont think the screwdriver trick will work now. having one head off will help in the cam and spring swap though!!!
