Default 853 heads with the notch on #3/#6 pistons?

Is that notch visible from the side when the heads are on the car? Just wondering because I put Cometic .040 gaskets on the car, and if that notch is there, I need to tear it apart again. I cant see or feel it from the outside, is it there? Let me know if you know please...

No, from what I read, some '99's had the notch like '97 and '98 LS1's, that the Cometics don't compensate for, causing leakage. I know I have them in there right...all the coolant passages lined up, but I read about this notch and got a little worried. Is it visible on a fully assembled motor?

if you already have it assemble why bother. try it out. some people just have bad luck with these things. if it isn't broke don't fix it

Dammit....now I'm getting scared. But could you see the notch? I don't recall seeing it when I had the heads off, but I'm not 100%

I just took a look at mine...not much to see except the exhaust manifold. I'll try and take a pic tomorrow with the 1&3 plug wires off for a better view, but I don't think you'll be seeing much.

Prolly time to order some new gaskets or get a new set of heads. I'm going the new head route, so if you decide to sell your cometics let me know.

I can sell them and have them off by the weekend if you want them. I've never even fired the motor up with them on. I'll give 'em to you for the same price i bought them for...$90. Are you interested? Let me know, because if these sell, I'm picking up LS6 heads.
