Buying a modded Camaro.. had some questions.
The car has the following mods: it has headers and full exust with x pipe, cams, bored and stroked, LS1 motor, posse traction, automatic powershift transmission, hypertec system, keeps it going to redline all the way thru, no cat, 5" pipe. The owner says that the car is 11 secs. With the mods it has does it look possible? The car has major hail damage on the hood, so I'll have to replace it. Its got other cosmetic damage as well. Its probably going to cost atleast 1g to fix it. Is paying $8k a good price for this car or should I not buy this?

How could I forget all that info! Its a 98 Z28, cloth interior, 130k miles and like I said needs ATLEAST 1 g of body work. I dont know if it needs mechanical work but I'll get it checked out. I dont have pics.

personaly, i wouldn't by anything that heavily modded, if something breaks, you wouldn't know what kind of part to replace (rocker arms, springs, push rods, ect.) also you don't know whats all installed on that car....

not worth it.....plus, if it's got a built motor(if i'm reading correctly), and its tuned via hypertech, it probably was built by a guy who doesnt haev a cluse about LS1's....
Sorry, but if you wanna buy a modded LS1 camaro, go here

You can't bore an LS1, it is an aluminum block. It would have to be resleeved. Sounds like you don't know a lot about the car. I would probably pass on it unless I knew a lot about the individual car. Who tunned it? You are not going to tune a cammed car with a hypertec, much less a bigger cube motor. Is it stroked? if so who did it, what internals? Just too many questions, for someone who has to ask someone else.

That's not true. Some Ls1's(the 98's in a fbods) can't be bored, as the stock sleeves are too thin. My motor(out of a 00') has been bored over .010 to a 347 due to a ring failure that was .004 deep. I completely agree on everything else you said though~! That car sounds scary both mechanically and financially.

It's "possible" that it is another block, but unlikely. Especially if the guy said "i dunno" when you asked where the work was done. Come on dude, use your gut instincts!

Bored can mean anything over stock diameter of 3.898. It can be called "bored over" if the diameter is now 3.899. Most likely it was rebuilt because of some internal failure and only had to be slightly "honed" which would be more in line with what can be done to a stock LS1 without sleeving it. Nonetheless, 99+ can be bored .010 over max which someone already chimed in and said. Ask him how much it was bored over stock if you really wanna find out. I'd personally stay away from that thing at that high mileage and body work needed. If he wanted 5k for it I'd say go ahead and just throw a new engine in.

I recently bought a modded 98, I knew it would be a project, I had the time and I know what I am doing. It had 73K on it when I bought, didn't need any body work. I have basically gone through and updated or reinstalled everything the P/O did because things weren't done properly. Fortunately he did not install the h/c himself, so the internal engine work was done right. I paid 6k for it and it was a running driving 6 speed car.
No offense, but it sounds like you are new to LS1s. That car is not a good first LS1 car.

Don't buy a modified vehicle unless you know a good deal about how the vehicle was stock. Try to find an LS1 that is close to stock with possibly just bolt-ons, that way you can build up the car properly from stock. If the owner has every facet of the car documented, and can answer your questions without having to refer to such documentation, you may have a better purchase.
Otherwise just stay away from "project" cars. They will be just that, a project, and you want a car you can drive and enjoy.

I'm not a total noob to LS1s. I know a good deal about it. But you guys on this board probably know more. My car right now is a 2jz and I know everything possible about that engine, so Id expect you guys to know the same about LS1s. A modded 2jz is actually pretty reliable. Thanks for all the tips guys. Looks like I'm gonna stick with my Lexus for a lil bit more and finish her up.
