I did a nasty 3-2 shift at redline and smacked some valves into some pistons. Was one of my first times racing, was against an MKIV.

With the new motor and cam I was a bit more careful though I shift a bit higher. There's been a few times I hit it when I was paying more attention to the road than the tach. That doesn't happen anymore now that I have my Harlan light installed. GREAT mod. I never look at my tach anymore, so I have no clue how far off my stock tach is. Set the light at 2000 to start with and had the g/f rev it to about there while I was holding power to the light by the battery and she said it went off at right around 2000, so I set it to 6300 and haven't looked at the tach once yet since install (for racing anyways).

Only time I've hit it since was when my tires broke loose in the top of first and I slammed it into 2nd at the track and 2nd gear just lit up and shot straight to the limiter (something like 6800 on my car). Not a great feeling, especially when you're entire car club is watching

I'm on stock pushrods still, I'm sure half of them are bent. Going with aftermarket ones over the winter.

I used to do it quite often, but since I raised the limiter to 7400, I haven't bounced it yet.

Once so far.

I test drove a BRAND NEW 99 Pewter Trans Am, and went 1-2-3-2, followed by a loud VERY expensive series of pops.

oops.

Hit it like twice. Raptor solved everything. I highly recommend getting a shift light.

well at least youre grammar is going to improve since you're going to college

just messing

LS1's can rav to 7000 safely, but after that youre gonna come close to floating a valve of something if you dont have springs and pushrods.

Anthony, I think you meant 6000 instead of 7000 RPM?

I nick it after the traps usualy on every run, but I have hit it hard very few times. Usualy when I miss a gear. Never manualy over reved the motor. Fingers Crossed for the future.

I have always heard that the factory tachs are slow and a few 100 rpms behind, but are they all this way? I mean I shift at about 6200 according to my tach and hardly ever hit the limiter.

If they are slow then it should be what I am about to tell you

Seems like I hit mine at 6000. because the engine is moving faster than the actual tach shows in the car.

and lately Ive been hitting mine a lot.

Yes, the engine can rev faster than the tach can show output. It's not a set amount higher than the engine though. In first gear the difference will be the largest as the motor accelerates fastest in 1st. Second gear it'll be more accurate and so on...

Hit mine a coupe times. First time was launching on ET streets and she just flew and reved faster than a thought and tapped it on the 1-2 shift. Another time was after I put in my shift light and didn't have all the dip switches set right and the light didn't go off. Now that I have everything worked out with my Raptor shift light I haven't hit the limiter. Nice to see that red light out of the corner of my eye and nail the shift.

doing about a bill and instead of shifting into 4th I went to 2nd... That was neat. Bent 4 pushrods and ruined 1 pair of underware.

At the track with heads, cam, springs, pushrods, rockers I use to launch off the limiter. 6800rpm. Only killed 1 10-bolt. I went to a 12-bolt after that

Missed 4th last night and hit second while racing a Cobra. Over-revved the **** out of it, now it clatters like crazy. Guess I gotta replace some pushrods.
