I've hit it a few times. With my Raptor in the car i've yet to miss one. The tach seems to be a bit slow in the first two gears (in my car anyway), hence the need for the shift light.

I hit it only once and that was spinning in first and it bounced off the limiter.

The most common problem from over-reving would be bent pushrods and valves hitting the pistons. Ive seen lots of both. If you dont want this to happen, get LS6 stlye heads with the hollow valves. GM knew what they were doing here, ask anyone with a Z06....What are the limiters set at on these things, I think its like 6600? Lighter valves = no valve float. Happy revving!

...or a more convenient and economical way is to merely put a better valvespring on the car.

Now that is funny

I hit the limiter all the time because my 4l60-e is a p.o.s

As long as the valvetrain can take higher rpm than the limiter no big deal.

but if you are useing valve float to limit or right at that point with the limiter setting you are asking for that piston to smack the valve.

I just took it out in mine, you can tell when it's getting close to it's limit wo computer intervention. But this also comes from growing up around cars and running the bejesus out of them.

I hit it a few times before and after a cam swap. no bent pushrods. As a matter of fact, i took my heads off today and checked the pushrods, still none bent. Before you ask, i took them off to change the lifters, 875 comp/r's crap.

spinning a cammed 5.3 to 6400 with no problems on a 150 shot... limiter is set at 6600... Never hit it while spraying though. the limiter is a FUEL shutoff if I'm not mistaken.... that would be ugly to bounce the limiter while on the bottle :boom:

Thats why you set your window switch to shut nitrous off before your rev limiter, that way that will never happen to ya.

Rarely ever, and if I do, it's only in first gear.

And I dont even use my tach, I use my ears.

I am new to this site, but wanted to chime in here.
I have an LS1 in my Sand Rail.
Lots of people here in the southwest that go to the sand dunes run LS1, LS2, LS6 and LS7's are starting to become popular.
I can tell you, we run these motors very hard.
I am running at 4000-5500rpm all the time in the sand.
As far as rev limiters go, people hit them all the time at the drag races or running big hills.
I haven't seen anyone have a problem yet.

The pix I have of the motor is too large, I will see if I can get a better one.
Thanks
