Throw out how much youre spending. You can be cheap and make less than stock or spend a **** load and make 500HP. Alot of factors.

a few grand? it'd get you most of the bolt ons, and a good cam only setup. No heads with a $3k budget, not good ones anyways.

That should get you in the 400rwhp range depending on the cam you are running, and if it's an A4 or m6

Are you gonna be doing the labor yourself?? That saves a ton of cash too. My H/C package with gears, injectors, gears and dyno tune done by my tuner, all was right at 3000. I did the H/C in the garage

I'm rebuilding my own engine and i'm only at 3000 with the prc ls6 stage 1's, ms4, ls6 intake, headers, pulley, ported tb, and that 3000 includes buying the engine.

I would say average is somewhere near 430 rwhp

Many people have started a project and bought all the parts they thought were the best, only to get less than stellar results. Properly matched components will always net better gains.

Example 1 - You go out and buy a set of AFR 225 heads and a Texas Giant cam and bolt them onto your otherwise stock 346 with a lid and cat back exhaust and stock gears/converter. You might actually get to one of the 'average' figures that you asked about, but it ill never run very well. All of those cool parts have to be properly mated together and tuned.

Example 2 - You go a bit more conservative with AFR 205 heads and a TSP 228R cam. Milling the heads down to 59-61cc's, checking Piston to Valve clearance, adding a ported 90/90 intake and some good flowing headers would make a lot of power in a much tamer setup. Would probably be much more enjoyable to drive.

Take your $1500 and invest in a good exhaust system this month. If its an automatic, get a stall converter and tranny cooler first, then do the exhaust. Then get the intake and throttle body next month. Save a couple more months for the cam and heads (and tuning, and rear-end, etc). Eventually, you'll have accumulated everything you need for a stout setup.
