Steve did a 98 block for me, it has the porting he is talking about. He is Da Man.

Default Rear oiling on early blocks

I machine the cutout to .450" depth. Then hand blend the sharp edges.

I did a block this morning. Took some photos.

First is the stock block before machining. The iron blocks all have this face. Second is machining in progress. The third is the completed modification.
