Question Max Timing Advance?

Quick Question for you guys. What is the max timing advance you guys are running on an LS1 at Wide Open Throttle on pump gas (NOT race gas)? What do you think a safe range would be and what would a more aggressive range be for this engine?

Thanks,
Adam

What year car do you have? What are your mods? I run about 28 WOT.

Thats a difficult question to answer. lol The engine, which I'm currently assembling, is going in my Saker SVS (Mid-engined race car that weighs 2000 pounds.) It has an MS4 cam, Patriot Heads, Forged bottom end, with a compression ratio of 11:1 (Or 11.5:1 I can't remember what I set it up as off the top of my head). It is going to have a custom exhaust with no cats, not sure on the muffler or header brand yet but most likely long tubes or custom headers to fit in the car, underdrive pulley, edelbrock single plate intake, no MAF.

Hopefully this will clear some things up. I was expecting something like 32-34 degrees but that is based off of my experience with the Lexus V8's so I really have no idea what to run on these cars. I mean obviously when I get it together and tuned it will be figured out then by starting low and going up but I would like to have some idea of what to expect from this engine.

Thanks,
Adam

Timing is done via tuning and can vary in range from motor to motor depending on SCR/DCR etc....
Basically you dyno tune it while increasing advance to where it makes maximum power without KR and back it up 1*

Dont expect timing to be in the mid 30s range. The LS1 combustion chamber is pretty damn efficient so the motor needs less advance to complete the burn. My guess is that youll be aiming for closer to around 25-26* with that cam and compression. Im basing that off my motor with a smaller XER cam and 11:1 compression, which I run at 26-27*. I figure you may have higher static compression, but the bigger cam should bleed off some DCR. But like predator says, only way to tel for sure is to advance on the dyno and advance timing till it stops making power.

Thanks for the info guys. I really appreciate it. I realize that tuning is the only way to really figure it out but I woudl like to have some point of reference while tuning. This has been a great help.

Thanks,
Adam

With my cam only car I am running 28* of timing through most of the powerband.
