this cam, motor setup will see 7500 regular as a hydraulic setup. Which lifters would you prefer over the other and why? Im leaning towards the Morels. I wish I knew what Mike Brown was running in his CETA. hmmm

 

I think I just saw some upgraded LS7 lifters available @ Scoggings, used in the high reving Caddy.

 

That caught my eye too. Im not sure what the Morels run but the GM alternative seems to be on target with the Comp R pricing. Should be interesting either way.

 

Morels over comp R any day. Though the SDPC lifters seem promising.

 

Are the new GMPP's hydraulics or solids? i need hydraulics.

 

Theyre hydraulic. And theyre made for high rpms.

 

All you gota do is ask. I'm running Morels in my new motor. 7800rpm so far with no issues. I ran Comp R's in my LS2 motor to 7500 for a long time. I had a set of Comp R's in my new motor at first but had some valvetrain issues. When we pulled them out. I wasn't happy with what I seen. I would suggest the Morels. Goodluck

 

I know some of you (us street racers) are secretive with cam specs, but I am wondering roughly what are the cam specs on these cams that are getting 7500-7800 rpm successfully with hydraulics and how big are the motors? 7800 out of a solid roller is baby ****, but out of a hydraulic.....you have my attention.

 

LOL, My engine builder says that I could easily take the car to 7000 RPM, this is on a 402. Cam is around 245-257, 114 ls, 650 lift. The dyno graph shows power gains ramping up still at the 6400 RPM limit.

I'm thinking about upgrading the lifters this winter, and havent decided on the Morel, or the new GM lifter. Price is not the issue, just want to get some more info on both lifters.

 

Don't know much about the new GM's, but the Morels have a good history and can handle high spring loads. The offshore boat guys use them a lot, and a car engine is babied compared to a marine engine.

FYI: My latest Crane newletter also indicates they are introducing a new maximum effort roller lifter as well if you want to investigate them as well.

 

The Morel lifter for the LS1 was specifically built at the request of multiple cam grinders because they new this engine platform would be thrashed. Tolerances, oil band location, material, wheel diameter, valving, are all areas that were looked at to live in this application. Also the Morels are 100% rebuilidable so after 3 or 4 years of 7000 rpm pulls you send them back, have them rebuilt for $185 and you have a new set of lifters.

In my case in got my Heads / Cam / Lifters / Push Rods and the related parts from a renowned tuner that doesn't advertise on this board... no worries, everything will go back there for any service.

My question is related to a customer that bought a second hand LS with Morel's and need a rebuilt.

That's what i've always thought. Back when I used to check in this section more, all I ever heard about the Comp R's were how many failures were being posted.

 

Given the amount of labor required to get to the lifters - Morels.

 

MOREL, period!

Others are OEM replacements from Eaton or Stanadyne.

Easily ID'd by a smooth or grooved oil channel.

 

I went with lunati for my build. I had ordered a set of comp r's and ended up sending them back. I know crane has a billet lifter for the LS1's they're pretty spendy tho.
