When to change lifters?

When to change lifters? I always hear of guys changing lifters on here. I have no plans to, but want to know if I should.
80k miles on the clock
changing heads and cam again soon
original stock cam in for 78k miles
224/.581 in for 2k miles
no symptoms of problems
Should I change lifters when I change heads? I mean, is there actually a risk of a problem with say, a G5X3 or similar cam?

Theoretically lifters should be changed when adding a new cam, even a hydraulic roller. Most people don't and get by without problems. The LS1 lifters are pretty well designed. Given the 80K on your stockers and the hint of the G5X3 cam makes it an easy answered question. Even a set of new stockers will be better than 80K originals. Springing for new lifters is well worth the money and you'll have the heads off anway.

rollers are made to be reused, as long as theyre not damaged they should be just fine unless youre running large lift or high rpm (6500+) new cam or not
I recently purchased a new set since i was doing a H/C package.My car has 90K on the clock and two of the stockers were sticking(AKA Roller portion refused to move) Figured a few of the bearing must have taken a dump and it's not worth the risk (Or time as if i had to remove the heads AGAIN for just lifters i'd kick my own ***). They aren't expensive and if your replacing everything else in your valvetrain why not the lifters...?

sadly the LSx design requires heads to be removed and that is the biggest contributor to most cam only swaps not wanting to change.
