Help Opinions needed Nitrous Mishap
I have a buddy with a 100 wet shot on his '03 Z06. Off the bottle, he made 438/397 and on the bottle, he made 538/612. We went to the track today and made 3 motor passes and 1 bottle fed pass.....After the pass on the bottle, almost at the end of the track, his check engine light came on and when he pulled up to park, the car was missing real bad...While rolling in the parking lot, the car was sputtering & missing, but there was no white or blue smoke coming out the tailpipes.. It sounded like the car was pulling major timing sputtering very bad..Well we got the car home and pulled the plugs, and the plugs were ok.....what do you think might have happened?
right now, we speculate he might have bent some valves and possibly flycutting some pistons.....We are taking the heads off tomorrow afternoon..

I wouldn't go pulling the heads off just yet. I'd do a compression test first to see if indeed he has some bent valves. Why do you assume he has some bent valves? Did he miss a shift or something? Are any of the plug wires melted or maybe not connected all the way?

If the SES came "ON" then a DTC is set. Did you retrieve the DTC and the Freeze Frame Data? Why jump to the worst case senerio conclusion without doing the basics first as you've already been told. Get you DTCs and Freeze Frames and go from there. A compression test will tell you if you even need to start thinking about pulling the heads. A leak down can also tell this for you, but you need to diagnose the reason the SES come in the first place before you do anything else.
