Default lining up the dots

When reinistalling the cam gear and lining up the dots on it and the crank gear how close can the dots be and still be off, from one angle the dots look lined up from a different look they look like the might be off by a quarter to a half a tooth, is it possible for them to be off just a few degrees with the setup on an ls1?

There is no how close..They must be aligned straight up and down....Look at it head on.

I don't know it seems to be pretty much on if not off just a hair, I'm just real sketchy about it being wrong

Look at it with a straight edge if you have to looking down. It cannot be off or you will have problems. The dots are to be facing each other.

You should try doing dot to dot on a ls2...

The timing chain dampner is VERY hard to see around... Must of taken me an hour to do dot to dot... I was so nervous...

About the only thing I found to be reassuring about the whole process was when as an experiment I tried to place it off one tooth. Just one tooth off is WAY off dot-to-dot, so it's obvious when you're right.

If the dots are off you will know it. There isn't any 1/4 tooth off. It will be obvious that you are off.

You will be fine. TOS98SS is right. I encountered the samething. I rolled the engine with the a breaker bar and they aligned dot to dot.
