Wow, that would stink if the pulleys short change you in the rpms. That would be losing way more than your gains just in rpms..
So I guess this means the ECM and the tach are polling from 2 seperate locations? That seems kinda odd, but these days I wouldn't put anything past GM.
Kick_*ss's has apparently gone in the other direction as far as he feels, He said it sounds like it is at 6k+rpms when his tach shows 51-5200.
I guess we will not know for sure until he gets it over here, I am hoping it is just a change in SOTP that has got him worried...

I think he is a little afraid to push it much farther, I will take it for a spin tomorrow and see if I can get it to bang the limiter at a lower rpm..
Sounds like we have hit on something funny here..
hopefully it is easy to fix..
Do you know if the ls1 has a sensor or something at the front of the crank that we are pulling RPMs from? I haven't had the chance to pull a timing cover off of one of these things yet so don't know.

Re: ASP Pulleys are Awesome
I am very happy with the ASP pulley set.
Like lunaticTA said above, I am stomping it and at around 4k-5k it sounds like it did at 6k before but still keeps going to 6k.
I haven't hit the rev limiter yet, but after IM'ing lunaticTA I will purposely hit it tomorrow morning after it warms up on the way into work.
But truthfully after the last dyno runs I've had, my power always started to dropped off at 5200-5500 anyway, so now I have even more reason to shift at that range.
Letcha know tomorrow.

Re: ASP Pulleys are Awesome
About the tach issue. The only reason why its like that is because the tach cannot keep up with a fast revving engine. Mine couldnt keep up when the car was stock. Its bad now in first with the pulley and 4.10s. Get a shift light.
Also, to the above post, with your mods, you should be shifting as close to the rev limiter as possible for the best ET. Yes, your hp peaks lower than 6200, but its been long proven this is the way to do it...unless you are running N2O.

Re: ASP Pulleys are Awesome
My tach has been off long before I even started modding the car. <img src="images/icons/grin.gif" border="0">
One of the reasons to hold out and shift just before redline is so that when you hit the next gear, you are in the meat of your power range. It takes less time to rev the engine from around 5500rpm where your peak power is made to 6200rpm than it is to drop it to low and re-spool the engine in the next gear.

Re: ASP Pulleys are Awesome
I like the gains from the pulley don't get me wrong, I like how fast engine revs, plus with the new cam it just keeps on pulling! <img src="images/icons/grin.gif" border="0"> I just needed to know if its a common occurance for the stock tach to become slow after the install.. My factory tach was fine before the install, then afterwards it seems like its just way off. I ordered a new tach w/shift light so no big deal, but I thought it was just me or maybe we did something wrong.

I noticed better revs in the 4000+ rpm range immediately. Great little mod for the money. <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0">

TTT Anyone else with ASP pulleys notice a difference on the tachometer?

Re: ASP Pulleys are Awesome
There is no sensor that reads the crank pulley for rpms. If anything, because its revving faster it looks like you are hitting the limiter quicker...the stock tach is lagged and probably cant keep up as well.

Re: ASP Pulleys are Awesome
Don't forget guys that our tachs are notoriously slow to begin with so if you are twisting up that much faster you would be having this problem. Take your rpms up and hold them and see if the tach catches up, that is the easiest way to tell if your tach is slow.

Re: ASP Pulleys are Awesome
So, once I install mine in a A4, it isn't gonna make a difference in performance if the tach can't keep up is it? The computer will shift at the same RPM whether the tach keeps up or not, correct?

The tach has nothing to do with the computer. Finally got my ASP on this morning (sweet). I have a Phantom tach, and it's always been way faster than the factory one. Although I did verify on atap that the factory tach is right on, and the Autometer is actually the one 200 rpm's off <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0"> The only reason I don't sell it is because it looks cool. After my pulley the tach readings are the same, and the same speed as before. BTW, the pulley makes my car go like:
