While that is a good idea, he said he wanted 12's for the least amount of money and TC's aren't cheap. The cheapest route would have to be to shed some weight (i.e. !swaybar, !rearseat, 1/4 tank of gas, etc.) and do free/cheap stuff like hollowing out the cats, get a cutout, egr mod, etc.
What you should do is get an ASP crank pulley. My car made 328rwhp with a loudmouth exhaust, lid, pulleys, and a GMAF. I don't think I gained much from the GMAF until I added a cam, headers, and intake though. You've already got a lid, so I'd get the pulley, a cutout, and maybe try to shed a little weight and you should see high 12's easy.

I agree with the cutout, but not MAF/pulley. The money is better spent elsewhere, like a torque converter. <img src="images/icons/grin.gif" border="0">

My first answer was NOS before I saw the rest of the post. <img src="images/icons/grin.gif" border="0"> I am a bottle baby at heart. I would say convertor if it is in your price range; but if you are wanting to spent less; get a set of headers and off road y pipe, if not the hollow the cats, and get a pulley. It is all up to your price range. There are countless ways to go about running a 12 cheaply. <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0">

How would headers be cheaper than a converter? After a converter, headers would be my second mod.
Is it installation costs or something ? I install all my parts myself.

I would think a converter would be easier. I was thinking of the higher c5 header prices, my bad.

Another vote for a converter. Dont waste your time with nickel and dime mods. Its MUCH more rewarding to save up, have some patience, and you will LOVE what you will be able to make your car do .. For instance.. you go out there and get pullies, MAF, and this that and the other u just spent money on what coulda been a converter!

The 2 lowest price and most SOTP/Dyno# difference I've seen were the SLP Y-Pipe and ASP Crank and Alt Pulleys.
SLP Y-pipe was 179
ASP Pulleys 202 + 39 for belts

You’re the first person I’ve ever heard say that the SLP Y-pipe was a good mod. Most say to only do it when you run out of everything else to do. Most say they only gained ~3HP and .03 to nothing at the track. Were your results different?

Yea, converter will give you at least .5 in the quarter...all depends on your setup though...

I'll be the second person you've heard saying good about the SLP Y-Pipe. <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0"> Although I didn't dyno my Z before the Y-pipe went in, I did take it to the track before installing it. After installing it, I went back to the track. I'd picked up .1 sec.
Could that .1 sec have been attributed to atmospheric differences? Sure. Could it be my driving technique was better the second time out? Absolutely. But everything else aside, at least all my exhaust pipes are the same shape now, dammit! <img src="images/icons/grin.gif" border="0">

I’ve thought about getting this pipe just to try it for myself; did you have any fitment or banging issues?

Re: Best Modifications??
Wow, thanks for the feedback! I had been told by GeorgeC to get a convertor or do up the exhaust, I'm just worried about reliability with all the driving the car sees if I put a convertor in it. But hell, I'd spend the money for 12 seconds. I'll have to review the free mods too.
Thanks again!

Re: Best Modifications??
SLP Y-pipe gave me 8 rwhp and 9 rw torque.
The dyno below is 2 weeks apart the only difference was the slp y-pipe.
red before - blue after.
I can only say number speak for themselves.
I will be hitting the dyno again friday to see what the asp pulleys show.
