Question 7.400 or 7.350 Push rods??

i am going to buy some 2.5 5.3L PRC heads milled to 59 cc

and i will use the MS3 cam

Zach at TSP toldme the 7.350 rods are what I need..

Just wanted to get some second opinions...no offense to Zach, just checking and double checking!!

Thanks!

Double check with a pushrod checker to be sure.

yes install the heads 1st then use the ps chkr.. its kinda difficult at 1st but you can do it, proper valvetrain geometry does make a difference.

My 2.5 are milled .025 to 58.93 cc and with my cam TV2 I used 7.400. Not a peep from the valvetrain.
I say 7.400 with stock gasket

How much are you flycutting?

I am going to mill to 59cc and run a thinner gasket to get quench where I want it, ill go with the .040 Cometics..

As far as fly cutting is concerned, I heard .080" is pretty standard....I am not quite sure though, not even sure how to measure that before hand, that is why I am asking now, so I dont screw something up big time..

any help would be ideal at this point..

i was ignorant and got a set of the 7.350 p-rods with a cam with xer lobes with a set of heads milled .030 and i had major valvetrain noise and predator steered me in the right direction.i think you will need the 7.4s also.

stock gasket but i think it is around .053 or .054 thou thick so that is only another .013-.014 thou if you mill .030 off your heads.alot of people use 7.425 -7.450 with stock gaskets and unmilled heads so 7.375-7.4 will be very close.

7.35 rod would put you at approximately .035 extra preload with your combo...i would also suggest that lenght

I am where you are at right now. I have stock heads milled .025 and a .042 gasket. I came out with 7.26 0 valve lash so a 7.35 puts me right where i want for preload.

Lifters have a play on pushrod length, depending on what preload you are trying to attain. For instance Morel lifters like .025 to .045 preload, while stock are .080 - .095.

I would like to find a write up also for using the PR Checker I am ordering. I have stock gaskets, heads milled .30 thou. and morel lifters. My car wouldnt start with my 7.40s. Put in .30 shim still no start. Took out .30 and replaced with .60 shim. Starts but down on power(compression loss?) now I want to use the PR Checker!! Any instructions on using the checker would be great!!!

With my setup, I ended up with 7.300. Get the pr checker from summit for $20.00

" I would like to find a write up also for using the PR Checker I am ordering."

Do a search on this website, look for my name. I've written about it numerous times in late 2005 and early 2006 as have many others. Sorry, don't have it here at home or I would post it.
