Huge LS1 Cam? .700" lift Please look
Pro Stock John said to try my question here. I recently purchased several parts (LT1 & LS1)from a swap meet and one of the cams looks identical to a stock LS1 cam. Upon measuring the Lobe lift with a dial indicator it reads .412". If this is multiplied by 1.7 for stock rockers that makes it a .700" lift cam. It is stamped H495 on the end and that is the only markings that are on it. I think, as with most people, that this is way to much lift for any LS1 based engine, but then what is it? The cam is hollow and is a gold color other than the lobes and journals. I have no use for this cam but am interested and now very curious to figure out what it is. I am just going to sell or trade the cam but need to figure out what it is first.
Thanks, Ryan

What methodology did you use to measure lobe lift? It might be a good idea to take the cam to a local shop that has a cam doctor/ cam pro

Place in V-blocks, zero the dial indicator on the back side of the lobe, turn cam to the highest point of the lobe, lift reading=.412". .412 X 1.7 = .700" lift at the valve. I did the same with a stock LS1 cam and got about .495" lift at the valve. The figure may not be exact but I am pretty sure they are within +/- .005". I do not want to take the time to get duration #'s myself at this point because the .700" lift is enough of a mystery.

Same journal size as the stock LS1 cam I have setting here. Looks like 2.165, if I am reading my Mic. correclty. Is that right? I was told the other cam I have came out of an LS1.
