Default Has anuone installed a LS6 intake without replacing the coolant lines?

Any vac leaks due to the intake not sealing?

The LS6 intake can be installed with the stock LS1 coolant passages underneath it, but the intake must be slightly modified on the bottom. Just grind some of the ribs on the bottom with a Dremel tool so that they clear the line.

Otherwise, it will not fit properly.

You can do this, but you will have to use a die grinder or dremel and trim all the ridges off the bottom of the intake. I have installed them both ways, and would gladly spend the money on the coolant pipes/plugs. Easier and cleaner install...

I did mine with the plug/crossover delete but saw an install where they didn't touch the intake and just mashed the coolant lines down....wouldn't this cause a vac leak?

Hi,
The hose and 2 rear plugs are about $40.
I suggest just changing them, I just dont feel right about modifying the intake, and wont chance it myself. I have also heard of knock sensor codes being set, as the pipe rubs through the wires.

The install Onfire is talking about is mine. We have been trying to track down a vacuum leak that I have had since the LS6 intake and PCV mod were installed. I have a high idle speed and an SES light (high idle speed code). We have eliminated the PCV mod as a suspect. There also is a problem where the EGR pipe connects to the intake- it was not installed properly and one of the O-rings was cracked.

HI there,
Honestly, I do not recommend any mods to the PCV system, as this will only create problems later on.
If it is a can, or a different PCV valve, correct orifice size, and spring tension within a PCV is critical to performance.
Oil in the throttle body, to a certain extent is normal, as the higher crankcase pressures seen in Gen 3 small block.
Everyone that is out there, has this anomoly, and should be considered normal.

c4c5specialist- tell me more about what problems modifying the PCV system can cause. The PCV mod I am using (stevenmh PCV mod) uses the stock PCV valve, but incorporates two in-line filters and a catch can.

HI there,
The filters, and the catch can, may also cause higher than normal crankcase pressures, which is not considered abnormal. Any obstructions within the PCV lines, will cause resistance within the crankcase, whether it is when oil vapor is being pushed out of the fresh air hose, OR when fresh air is trying to be pulled in.
When we first battled with this issue, I had the ear of a field service engineer from GM. We had talked at length about these issue of oil bleed back through the PCV fresh air intake.
He stated that due to pumping forces within the block, under heavy acceleration, this could occur. Its not like the oil will just pour into the intake, this doesnt happen as bad as people say it does. Yes, absolutely, you will have heavy vapor at times, however, as long as it is maintained in a correct fashion, it will be fine.
Correct PCV valve, will do fine for your application.
Just remember, if you are expereincing oil consumption issues, other avenues may need to be explored.

Thanks for the info. The PCV mod has NOT solved my oil consumption problems. I consume a quart every 500-1000 miles, and my oil gets very dark between oil changes. I think I need the new rings. The PCV mod has helped some people, though.
