LS1 vs. LS6 heads
What are the differences between these heads? Will the LS6 heads outperform the LS1 heads and all "stages" of upgrading?
Thanks! <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[Burnout]" />

Re: LS1 vs. LS6 heads
I got first hand lesson today on the differences in the heads.
Main things I cam away with.
1) LS6 head has a change in the shape of the combustion chamber
2) different way the heads are cast allow more aggresive porting of the intake ports.
3) exhaust port is more "d" shaped than the LS1 head
The main point...they can be ported to flow better than a LS1 head, and so far that more aggresive porting , and better flow characteristics HAS equated to quicker et's, higher traps, bigger dyno numbers.

Re: LS1 vs. LS6 heads
PS: Thanks to Jayson...the Owner of MTI, and one of the sponsors here for taking an hour out of his busy schedule, taking me, and my dad into their in house machine shop, and giving me a side by side comparo of stock LS1 heads, stock LS6 heads, and the various stages of Posted LS1, and LS6 heads.
He threw in a bonus lesson on some of the details of the C5 R head as well.
To all you guys who tried calling him while we were talking....

Re: LS1 vs. LS6 heads
An inherent advantage of the LS6 heads are the valves. Intakes have hollow stems and the exhausts are sodium filled for better cooling.

That's only for 2002, the 2001 LS6 heads did not have this.

Re: LS1 vs. LS6 heads
I have LS6 Stage 2 heads from ARE. Havent gotten a day at the track without breaking anything. But with spray i should run some good numbers. problem is the LS6 heads(cores) are very hard to come by if you dont want to pay big money. I waited 8 months for Nick to get these heads. If you can find a set of cores dirt cheap then its better than ls1 heads. But its not easy to find ls6 heads and not cheap.

Price will depend greatly on where you look.
Try Pace, Phoenix, or Jay fisher
I picked up my set for a little over $500 each bare.
Local dealers wanted $1100 for a single bare.

I need to ask about the C5-R heads next time I'm down there. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[Burnout]" />

Re: LS1 vs. LS6 heads
Try JohnS@paceparts.com, I am thinking $700 each bare.
LS6 heads flow more than the LS1's with the same level of work and same valves.
I'd consider swapping my ARE Stage II's for some ARE Stage II LS6 heads if the price was not horrible.

yep, that's what they mean.

Re: LS1 vs. LS6 heads
How much are the ARE LS6 stage 2 heads and do they use those trick valves that come with the 2002 LS6 heads.
