Will misfires be an issue with a comp 212/218 cam?
I’m planning on this cam (comp 212/218//.522/.529//114) and I’ve heard of some cams misfiring enough to cause the TC to stay un-locked. I was wondering if this cam is small enough to avoid that issue. Thanks.

Anyone else have misfire related TC issues with cams of this size?

Cam: Comp Cams 218/218 .527/.527 114 LSA
Here is what I am having Ed Wright do to the PCM in my A4 98 TA:
_________________________________________________
1. Adjust fuel curves and timing for cam/head/ headers install (if nessesary)
2. Delete A.I.R. code (getting rid of AIR pump)
3. Delete EGR code (because of useing an LS6 intake)
4. Delete random misfire PO300 code
5. Delete torque management
6. Delete rear O2 sensor codes (useing FLP headers)
7. Set shift points to 6,300
8. Set rev limiter to 6,700
9. Set fan turn-on to 190 degrees
10. Set speed limiter to 170 mph
11. Increase idle 100 rpm
I believe deleteing the random misfire codes will solve the trans lock-up problems
Anyone... Correct me if I am wrong

I have that comp 212/218 along with a Yank 3000 and I can tell you that yes there will be misfire codes set. I idle right at around 500 rpm in drive, and I will get the stupid P03 ramdom misfire code about once every two days after prolonged idle in traffic. Also, idling that low, there is some surging that comes along with tc.

Once i installed that cam, my converter went through the locking unlocking crap.
I had ed wright program the pcm and it hasnt done it since.

I have the comp cam 212/218 with Ed's tuning and have had 0 problems. I wish I would have gone with a bigger cam <img src="images/icons/grin.gif" border="0"> like that of the B1. I recently had my pcm sent back to him as my 2-3 shift was banging the rev limiter with my new super thruster.

I had the exact same problem with that cam and a ST3500 in a stock head no headder A4 98Z. I got in the habit of popping it in neutral if I was going to be idling for any length of time and giving at a little gas to get the idle up a bit. It got to be a real PITA. I wish there was a really cheap way to just up the idle speed on a A4 car. The problem with adjusting the idle stop screw to up the idle speed seems to make the surging worse as the IAC tried to idle it back down lower.

I never had lock-up issues till I had the LS6 cam put in. I'll assume that a more aggressive cam will run the likelyhood of the same issues.

Even with just an LS6 cam you’re having lock-up issues? Wow.
What do you need to have removed from the PCM to get rid of this?

Re: Will misfires be an issue with a comp 212/218 cam?
I'd like to have MTI tune my computer so as to retain the use of my hypertech for shift points. So I figured I get TM & misfire codes deleted and raise the idle to 700 rpm. Is 700 to high? Maybe 650? I do have a 3500 'verter though, so a higher idle won't really bother me much. I'm not sure if it's really necessary to mess with fuel curves and timing for this cam, but I'd be willing to if need be. What do you guys think?
