Default LS6 cam in A4?

Will the '01 LS6 cam cause idling and stalling problems in a A4? Would raising the idle with the set screw on the TB solve it?

Yes it will cause idling and stalling problems. Most people think that since the cam is so "unaggressive" that you will not encounter any problems. Not the case with me anyways. I've drilled the TB hole out a few times and adjusted the idle screw a bit but the car still surges occasionally and will die out in reverse or even going slowly around a corner. No cam will guarantee you trouble free times with stock programming but of course every car is a little different. I'm sure there are people out there with a similiar setup as me not running into the same problems. FWIW, the advantage out-weighs the headaches so i'm happy that I went with this cam. <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0"> Now get ready to hear 1001 reasons not to use this cam from the rest of our cast.

we've had some idle issues when installing LS6 as well as other "small" cams and after relearning the crankshaft position we've had next to zero surging stalling issues

I have never had the car stall or stumble or do anything even close to that, the only effect is that with the air conditioner OFF the idle surges between 750 and 850 once every four seconds while sitting at a stop light. Absolutely no problem to me. No surging with the a/c on. I've had to make sudden stops, etc, no problems, exactly like stock in that respect.

My 1999 Camaro SS has the '01 LS6 cam, LS6 intake, and MTI stage 1 heads and idles EXACTLY like stock. Never surges, stalls, or stumbles. Combined with MAC headers, Triflo catback, ported TB, and underdrive crank pulley, I made 363 RWHP and 355 RWTQ.

MTI did the install and maybe they know some tricks but I personally have never heard of any drivability problems with this cam.

I have the LS6 cam in a A4 with no idle problems
whatsoever. When I did the cam install I left the battery connected and it started right up and idled perfect from day one. The detractors can say what they want about the LS6 cam, but it served it's purpose for me. With the cam and bolt-ons I went 12.65 at 109.44 mph. That was with a
1.83 60-ft. Better traction along with the rev limiter and shift points bumped up will give me
better times yet. There are straight bolt-on cars with better ET's but I got excellent results from the cam on MY car.

this cam is a good cam and we are talking about the 01 version. To really make use of this cam I would think you may need headers, that aside as this is an oldman idle post, I'll say that this is close to a border line oldman cam. As you can see some guys say it will idle like a kitten or Camry and some guys will say there ARE idle problems. I'd probably say there ARE problems as I know what a Camry or Acura idles like.

My take on the stalling issue is that with a stock converter, with A/C, with 110 degree Texas heat, the engine will die on occasion. Like right as the A/C clutches on and you happen to be braking and turning into a driveway, stuff like that.

And no Tony's car don't idle like a Camry, but don't tell him.

Well to compare apples to oranges: I have the '01 LS6 cam in my 5.3 truck. It does idle just like stock and it has never missed a beat. For an LS1 it may be an oldman cam, but I gained 32 RWHP with it.

I do have an A4 with a Yank ST 3500. Idle on the gauges reads 550 and is just like stock.
