Default bent push rods & warranty?

I know my car has bent push rods because I can't seem to stay off the rev limiter...(See topic: top ten reasons why M6 rocks!)

Anywayz.....
I've heard mention that this could be turned into a warranty claim... is this true? or will they just call it abuse?

I'f this can be a warranty claim how would I go about convincing them to do it? what symptoms do I describe?
I ask because I don't think I can tell them, "yeah, I took a couple of them out and checked, myself"

Any info would be greatly appreachted!!

If I were you I'd fix it myself. Pushrods are cheap and you can have the whole thing done in less than 2 hours. I've heard of too many hassles from dealers.

I agree, it's pretty easy to replace them.

hey,

first post on new board!! Anyway, my 99 TA actually broke a pushrod and ate up my head. The dealer replaced everything under warrenty. I agree with the two other posts that it is very easy to swap the bad ones out. I recommend going back with stock if you are just replacing the pushrods. While you are there might be helpful to change to stiffer springs. I would ask around about which ones to get. I put a set of ZO6 springs in a Z, I am not convinced this is going to fix all the guys problems. Any suggestions?

Well I'm in no way opposed to doing it myself...

I'm just curious since I'm being lazy.... I just don't wanna get under the hood and do it....

besides every time I work on my car I spend too much money.... it's just the way I am. "well if I'm going to do this, then maybe I'll upgrade that too" seems to be a vicious circle.... damn car taking my money

A couple of comments here:
First off, I bent pushrods (and smacked a couple of valves in the process) when I missed a shift and went 3-2 instead of 3-4. I told the dealer that I missed a shift and went 3-2 instead of 3-4. They "fixed" everything under warranty. I use quotation marks around the word "fixed", because a year later, I bent 2 of them again - only this time I didn't miss a shift! I ran it up to redline and 2 more pushrods got bent! Definitely valve float! (no valves bent this time). No warranty coverage this time either, but I wasn't gonna press the issue for CDN$162! I asked them to check the tension on the valvesprings to find out what the story was with valve float, but they didn't have the little press that measures the tension!! So I took the car to ARE and Nick discovered that only 5 of the 16 springs were anywhere near factory spec. We also put in the springs from the LS6 as well as chromemoly pushrods.
We also discovered that the stupid dealer put back a broken rocker arm and over-torqued a second rocker arm so much that the head on that rocker bolt got sheared trying to unscrew it. Also, there were bits of needle bearings galore all over the place under the valve cover. the dealer didn't even change the oil after repairing the pushrods this time. 3 mos. later I spun a rod bearing with 2 weeks left on warranty and the dealer told me to get lost because I had 4.10s installed! I'll be seeing them in court shortly!
BTW, another member of our club actually snapped a pushrod in 2, and had it fixed by the dealer under warranty with no questions asked.
So far the valve springs and pushrods have been fine.

Best regardSS,

Elie
