I am now unsure as to what it is except that after that oil change the motor got a lot louder, lots more tapping. I am pulling the valve covers tomorrow to see whats up.

K&N Oil filter is the best, and I run Mobil 1 15w50 in my 402 along with the K&N 1007 filter, works perfectly.

73K miles. Yo uare right, it is senseless and im not sure if the oil change did it or what, but nothing else happened to it in that half hour timeframe. Quiet before, noisy after. What was I supposed to think did it?

For me: M1 0-40W, psi stays above 50, sound is comparable to the 30W.

BLKWS.6 you make it sound like you switched from ****-eaze to vegetable oil. Also sounds like a knee-jerk over-reaction to an unrelated probelm.

I'm gonna ask the obvious...you said you just added 6 qts. after changing the oil....did you bother to check the level?

Yes, level was a HAIR over the XXX just like it was after my first (and noise-free) oil change. I checked both before AND after starting the car for the first time after the oil change.

Napa gold filters which are just a wix filter are pretty darn good. Avoid any type of fram because they have cardboard in them that can and has in some cases become dislodged and circulated through the motor and caused damage. This is not just in their cheap filters it is in all of them. (I am not positive about their race filters but all others)

OKAY IM A 'TARD!!!!

I did NOT KNOW the LS1 motors have roller rockers in them. That is what I am hearing, it happens most 1-2000 rpm off-throttle. Dad listened to it, says its no quieter or louder than the day I bought it. Anyways, My 5.0 had RR's (upgraded) and it sounded just like this (only louder, it had roller tips too). Sorry for my retardation. I will run this 10-30 M1 for 2-2500 miles and then go 0-30 GC and STFU. Sorry OCD+Ignorance > Me

I didn't think it was anything to worry about. I knew it wasn't the oil. Well glad it worked out

I just think it was funny that you really fought that the thicker oil made your engine louder. From the sound of it the engine was dead silent, you did an oil change and it sounded like all the bearings spun. You were mad!! Then you admit that it is the same as it was before.... Too funny.

I guess ill take it like a man But I swear it DID sound louder...ok...im a 'tard I just didnt know these had RR's that and it being all aluminum (did know that) makes her loud.

I HATE FRAM, my dad had one jack up on him once. My mechanic blew their guts out every time in his 8,000+rpm dirttrack cars. He went with WIX and never looked back.

And I never knew that LS1's were european, because 0-30 GC is a european formula.

Shrell Rotella 15-40 is about the highest concentration detergent oil out there. My last TA was run on it (170K mile LT1) and I had to do 500 mile oil changes for 2500 miles, each time i would dump almost pudding-like crap from the filter. After 2500 miles, cleared up. After driving millions of miles (literally) and using dozens of oils, my dad came up with a few thoughts. Quakerstate sucks, M1 and Amsoil are cool but not worth the $$ in the long run with the cars he used (5.0 and 4.6 crown vics), and Shell Rotella produced teh cleanest crank case upon tear-down inspection. Fram filterss suck and WIX do a great job.

Yeah, I guess the outcomes is somewhat expected OCD>ME

that's right about the Rotella but put it in an engine that has a **** load of miles and see what happens. If it has 15-40 from the git go it would be fine but if not then using 15-40 is BAD! You will clean everything including the rings. Then you have an oil burner

My LT1 didnt use a drop at 170K miles. That is as far as MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with rotella T goes.
