Default Solid Roller Motor swap completed!!

As some of you may know we took the solid roller motor out of Jason99TA's car and swap it into my Z28, (you'll have to ask Jason why). WOW>>> I just took the first couple of test drives and this thing rocks. This thing pulls like a rocket on topend. Can't say anything about down low, the F1s have no chance.

The car is perfectly drivable with the auto, much more so then in a 6-speed with an aggressive clutch. My Yank Ultra Thruster 4800 is mighty loose with this much power and torque. Mike at Yank swears it will tighten up a good bit when I add more gear, we'll see. Idle is about 950rpms and is very smooth, not even much lope at all.

Jason's car dyno 442hp/419torque and he ran 11.16 @ 125.50 with this motor. Man I wish I could keep his mph. More info and track times to come, if the tranny holds out....

Wha? Sweet! Are you gonna put it up on the dyno to see how much it loses in an auto? Isnt there a meet at Eunice on the 8th? Is that when you're gonna run it?

KEEP US POSTED! Us A4/Future Heads/Cam guys are looking hard.

My Converter seems to be undynoable.
Since it's so loose the dyno doesn't even hardly pick anything up. We'll probably lock it up and dyno a few times just for tuning.

Yeah hopefully I'll be able to run it on the 8th. at Eunice. I'm going to try and make a few shake down passes Friday night and see if the tranny going to hold. We'll see....

He's got my stock motor now. He want to run bolt-ons again for a while. We'll see how long that lasts.

If tony reads this, i propose we do the same. Some one as good a driver as you should do well in the bolt-on race. and look at it this way...you'll break less parts. so wudda ya say?

Congrads Paul,

Now we get to see what that thing does in front of an auto. Man why did you go with a 4800? Did you order it before the motor swap? That convertor has got to stall past the tourqe curve. Anyway good luck. I'll have to make a trip to come see yall sometime.

Paul, I'm glad your enjoying the new found power. If you can get a clean pass down the track, it's going to be sick.

The biggest reason I decided to do the swap was because I really did not want to put a cage in my daily driver and that was almost mandatory now. Most of the tracks will let you get away with 11.50s or so, but 11.1s (and 10s were coming soon) was way beyond the rules. Alot of the tracks around here would just laugh if I showed up to race. LOL

I still plan on going back to the exact same setup (if not bigger and better ) in a year or so once I get a few things sorted out. For the time being, it's stock internals and bolt ons. I'm still keeping the 12-bolt, ET Drags, etc., so it is going to be a BLAST!

Yes, a Thunder 224 cam will probably make it's way in the motor before too long.

I have been running the UT 4800 for a couple of months now with the stock motor but the converter was built for the heads and cam set-up. Yeah you can say the car was over convertered with the stock motor. I picked up a tenth on my sixty foot with no change in et or mph. The motor was well out of it power band. It's much better with this motor but I still need more gear. With the stock 3.23s the converter is still flashing too high and doesn't drop enough on shifts. I'm getting a Moser 9" with 3.89s when I can afford one. Maybe my wife will see this and buy me one for Christmas.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, those times are still with the old converter. Hopefully they should pick up a little.

You'll have to get in line to race me in Eunice. It seems everyone wants to run me for some reason. I just hope the tranny holds out that long.

Wow, I'm pumped to see just how well the solid-roller setup does behind the A4! 10's should be in your near future. Paul, I'll be more than happy to race you! (so long as you have a SEVERELY slipping trans that won't shift out of 1st gear )
Are you missing the power Jason? It's hard for many to understand why you'd want to consciously take the loss in power, but these bolt-on cars can be FUN! It's certainly cheaper to keep them running. Then again, it probably would've been cheaper to keep a top fuel dragster running compared to the broken parts on my T/A. Either way, I can't wait to see how well you do with bolt-ons and a strong rearend!

Thanks Trevor. It's been raining since we got the car back together but it's been fun so far. I going to run it Friday night so we'll see what happens. I've got a lot left to do and some tuning issues but if it goes 11.50s or so on the first outting I'll be more then happy. Are you still coming down on the 8th?

Yeah Jason is still feeling a big loss of power since his motor is still sitting on the engine stand.

Go with a 4.11 gear and a spool man you wont regret it!! You will easily hit 124mph with that setup!! You will need a good tire!! I am excited to hear your results!!
Good luck!

Trevor, after driving my buddies '00 SS six-speed w/ all the bolt ons and 4:10s, I knew I wouldn't regret the decision. The car actually felt faster than my TA in 1st and 2nd gears, only because my TA was spinning through 3rd gear on the street. Once my car hooked and hit 4th, all hell would break loose. It still is going to be a BLAST w/ the bolt ons. Are you going to be at Eunice on the 8th?

Matt98SS, at least someone knows where I'm coming from. LOL
