Default I'd like to test a theory about PCM's. Would this be possible?

I am still amazed at the stock power difference demonstrated on both the dyno and at the track with the '01 & '02 F-body LS1's. I recognize that there were subtle changes to these cars (truck cam, ZO6 intake, larger injectors, larger MAF), however, one of the changes that none of us can really see are the changes made to the PCM. I found a quote from a GM tech article which compared the differences between the ’00 & ‘01/’02’s a while back that still has me thinking regarding the '01's and I assume the '02's. It stated that in addition to the above physical changes that there were also recalibrations made to the PCM for both performance and fuel economy/LEV emissions.

Here's my question, assuming that the basic PCM leads are the same, could an '01 or '02 PCM be slipped into a previous year LS1 car and ran on a dyno for comparison? I know that these '01 & '02's don't have the EGR so these wires would be deleted from the PCM but what would the worst thing that could happen....trouble codes?

I further realize that to make an apples to apples comparison that the complete idle re-learn procedure would have to be gone through but so what....so it takes a little time for this and it may take a few hours for an honest comparison. I'd be happy to be a Guinea pig or even take a small collection to pay someone to perform this on a dyno (hint, hint Nineball master of freebee dyno time!). My whole point to this post is that there has already been a discussion about LS1's not need 30+ degrees for maximum power. I witnessed an '01 on a dyno with only 24° total timing that only had a lid, catback, y-pipe & pulley make almost 340RWHP & over 350 RWTQ.

If GM somehow found a "sweet spot" with the timing curves and fuel maps wouldn't we all want to know what that is so that when we do finally get our hands on the LS1_Edit software that we can all make the same changes?

WEll u are on the right track, but i know the pcms will not even plug in to the new ones(and operate properly) however im sure changes were made to the 01/02s so,,,,,why cant we just look at a 01/02 programming and compare it to say a 98 or 99 <img src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" border="0">
