Default engine bore?

ok my engine is out, and dissassembled. im looking at a 383 stroker kit. this kit specs out at 3.905 bore. this im told can done with just a hone. but when i mic'ed it out i need to take out .0074 of my cylinder wall to get this bore of 3.905. granted, once i receive the actual rotating assembly, ill measure everything once again before i get the machining done, but what my question is.... .0074 seems alittle much to do with just a hone. maybe a few swipes with a bore and then a finished hone. so can our blocks be bored? cause im also told that they cant be bored. so whats the real deal here? also, i need to find a head plate to bolt on the block to get the most acturate bore measurements i can. where can i find one? anyone want to help me out on this head plate? im sure we can work something out. one last question... anyone know where i can get all the clearances i need to assemble the bottem end?

Bhj/goodson Should Make One By Know. Your Local Machine Shop Should Have One Also, Or Can Probably Borrow One. To My Knowledge You Should Be Able To Go .010 With Your Bore At The Most. As Far As Clearances, Check Ls1/ls6 Performance Books, Or Just Ask Any Engine Builder, Most Run Around What Gm Had Them Set At Anyway.

i read something awhile back that said you could use a TQ plate from a small block ford if the machine shop didn't have an LSX specific plate.anybody know if this is true?

If you in fact have a 98' style block, the absolute MOST you can hone it is 0.0050" before you'll start getting too thin on the cylinder liners. The early (97-98) LS1 blocks had super thin liners. If that's the case, you'll need a 3.903" piston, as the stock bore is 3.898".

the block can be bored up to .01, so obviously you wouldnt have a problem getting your .0074. not too sure about the SBF Torque plate, i know they can be used on the LTX platform, but im not a 100% about the LSX, ill try to do some research for ya. I'll try to get you the clearances soon, dont have them on hand.

I'm going to borrow the thread for a minute, hope you don't mind.
So you can safely bore a '99 .01 over, making the bore 3.898+.01 = 3.908. ?
I have a 99 and will be running about 10 psi. I just want a big enough bore to fit the smallest forged pistons that seems to be available which are 3.905. Will this be safe or do I need to resleeve?

3.905 pistons work in a 3.905 bore. The piston is actually smaller than that. When they are advertised as 3.903 or 3.905, they are designed to work in a bore of that size. You don't match a 3.905 piston to a 3.908 bore.
