Default Need help with questions about resetting my PCM??

Okay, firstly, how do I do this the right way pulling the fuses Also, how do I pull the fuses without breaking them, with my hand or a fuse puller tool? Also, with idle relearn and everything else, is my car going to run like **** for a while?

Most iportantly, will this erase my HPP3 tuning, should I remove it first, or will I be safe? Thanks!

I'm not too sure about the fuses, but I've heard a good way to reset everything is to pull one of the battery cables and let it sit overnight...

Thats a good question about the HPP3 I would like to know that too...

ok to reset the computer turn on your car but dont crank it. Then pull you pcm ign and pcm batt fuses. Let the car sit for a few minutes and then turn the key off. Put the fuses back in and it should be reseted. I usually pull the fuses with needle nose pliars. Do it carefully so you wont break them. From what ive heard the computer has a "flash memory" and everytime you use your hypertech it just records over the exsisting program. Once you program it it is stuck until you either put the stock program in or alter your shift points or gear change etc. This is how it was explained to me. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help, I am hoping it will get rid of my funny shifting and TC lock up.

CAN somebody PLEASE clear this up for me? Will my HPP3 be safe on there? Also, how long should I let it sit? Thanks!

Disconnect battery for at least 30 minutes. This will not erase any HPP3 setting currently being used.

I have done this many times and have not had any issues with losing the HPP3 settings.

Okay guys, I appreciate the help, but I heard that just disconnecting the battery does not work welll. So, can somebody please tell me if pulling the fuses and doing it that way will erase the HPP3 settings? Thanks!

You are not going to erase the HPP3 settings. My battery was unhooked for 2 weeks at the body shop with no loss of programming. And no battery = no juice to fuses or anything else.

I can pull them by hand but pliers makes it easier.

No, you absolutely WILL NOT loose your HPP3 programming by resetting the ECM.

here the proceedure on the aussie pcm, similair to yours, procedure probably the same.

PCM reset proceedure

1. Turn ignition ON,
2. Remove PCM/BCM fuse
3. wait 20 secs (our pcm emits a beep about then)
4. Turn ignition OFF,
5. wait another 20 secs
6. replace PCM/BCM fuse.

Then follow the idle learn proceedure

Idle Learn Procedure
Anytime the powertrain control module (PCM) or the battery is disconnected, the PCM loses power, or the PCM is reprogrammed, the PCMs learned idle position is lost. The engine idle is unstable when the learned idle position is lost.
Perform the following procedure in order to return the learned idle to the correct position:
Automatic Transmission
1.Turn OFF the ignition.
2.Restore the PCM battery feed.
3.Turn OFF the A/C controls.
4.Set the parking brake and block the drive wheels.
5.Start the engine.
6.Ensure that the engine coolant temperature is more than 80°C (176°F).
7.Shift the transmission into Drive.
8.Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes.
9.Shift the transmission into Park.
10.Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes.
11.Turn OFF the engine for 30 seconds.
Manual Transmission
1.Turn OFF the ignition.
2.Restore the PCM battery feed.
3.Turn OFF the A/C controls.
4.Set the parking brake and block the drive wheels.
5.Place the transmission in Neutral.
6.Start the engine.
7.Ensure that the engine coolant temperature is more than 80°C (176°F).
8.Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes.
9.Turn OFF the engine for 30 seconds.

thats the factory procedure. just start it up let it smooth out and turn it of for 30 sec and your done. it will fine adjust the rest as you go.

leaving the fuse out longer, not sure your would take that much longer to loose the short term memory, ah 30 secs then to be sure without a warning beep.

Okay, now I am confused. Firstly, I am pretty sureI have to wait longer than twenty secnods and that we do not get a beep. BTW, I appreciate the help guys!

Also, is idle relearn that cmoplicated. This means I have to do all this when the car is warm? Can somone explain if it is this complicated or not? I thought you just let it relearn it self??? Any ideas. Thanks! How long does realearn take and what do I ahve to do?
