Default Is this cam going to work?

I was told to get 400RWHP in my C5 I would have to go to a 226/234-112.I'm also doing ARE's Stage II+ heads.I was also told to go up to a 4400 or bigger stall to get this to work in my car.How streetable does this combo sound.I'll be doing some trips to the strip next year, but the car is a convert. w/o a roll bar so I don't think I'll get to race to much.I'm pretty sure I can beat a 13.99 with this combo.Any help or recomendations would be appreciated.

Whoever told you that must be high as a kite. That cam is HUGE, you will not need a cam that big with stock cubes. I'm not sure on the stall speed since I'm a manual tranny person, but I can sure tell you that the 226/234 cam will not be needed to acheive 400rwhp. I would try a cam from MTI or go for a "Hammer" cam, people are having goods results from these.

That setup is way too much for a street car. Run a 218 size camshaft, yank ST3500 stall, whatever heads you want, long tube headers, and ET streets at the track for 11 second ETs.

Well, CEndres went 11.3@118mph with that cam and LS6 heads with a 3450 raceweight.

4400 stall will work but it's noticeable.

That cam seems a little big. Why do you want 400 RWHP? Is this some magical number that makes you fast? I would much rather have a fat curve than a high peak...

OnyxSS has that exact set-up (ARE S2, that cam, YTP4400) and 4.11s and is running 11.2s at 122. He has not done much in weight savings. With tuning and a high idle, the car was very docile in town.

I drove it when he had 3.73s in it. After driving his car I was kicking myself for getting only a 218/218 cam (I now have the TR 224 cam). If you're serious about being real fast, you won't be disappointed.

What Ragtop said

I venture to say those that feel this cam is too big for a daily driver haven't driven it. Correct me if I'm wrong. It is very streetable.

That's not to say you can't get 400+ hp thru an A4 with other cams. Certainly you can. But I like my setup a lot.

I wouldnt use it.

You can get equal or better performance with a MUCH smaller cam.

Raugh, have you driven it? YOU have had good results with a smaller cam. Many others have not. There are not TOO many full weight, stock suspension N/A stock cubes running faster (in fact, there may be none).

This cam is has good idle, no cam surge, and has never cut out. I highly recommend it.

My other cam choice is a 226/226-.556/.556-114.I'm thinking of going with this one instead because I can keep my SY3500 instead of going to a custom 4400 Yank.

Just slapping a huge cam and stage 2 heads won't automatiaclly get you 400 hp. It's all in the combo. Do a lot of searching and you will see what combos make good power and what ones don't. From all the research I've done, I believe the Thunder 224 cam is making the best power of them all. Most close to 400 hp with just all the bolt ons and stock heads. If you get heads ported specifically for that cam, which is my plan, you can be way over 400 hp. And, I'm even going with 114 lsa. Should be fine for a daily driver.

Ok I've been researchin this for a month now and I'm still no closer to a choice.Talked to Nick again and he said if I go to a 114 on the 226/234 I can go to a 4000 stall. So I'm looking for any cam recomendations. No mild cams needed!!!!I want mid-wild!!!!This car is a only nice day driver and is going to be our shop car so I want to go all out on it.So give me your cam recomendations PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget this is going into a C5!!!We get alot more drivetrain loss then in a F-body

has anyone ever told you that bigger is not always better? the smaller cams are working great and the bigger cams have only been a problem with tuning while never making anymore power. you would also be turning that motor bug rpms. big loss in mid range power with only a little gain in the top end (which is not a big deal).

If your only goal is 400 rwhp, you can go with a much smaller cam. Especially if you're getting the p/p heads. Probably something in the 221-224 range. If you want the most power you can get out of the stock cubes with p/p heads, step up to the 224-228 range at the most. That 226/234 is just overkill.

Either one is fine Hampton, the 226/334 will be lopier. I would IMO run the 226/226 cam.
