Default New Guy and a question?

Hi all,
Just wanted to check and see what this place was like. I like it!
Anyway I am going to have about 800 bucks to spend on the car. It is a 2001 Z-28 M-6, Current mods MTI Lid, Free Ram air and a Cutout.
What should I spend the money. I will buy used as to stretch it more. I was looking at some headers. Are they worth the price? <img src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

The best seat of the pants mod you can get for under $800 for your car would be a set of 4.10 gears. It will cut your 0-60 time down substantially and knock off quite a few tenths on the 1/4 mile.

I love my 4.10's and as most people with the 6 speed will tell you, it is a must have mod.

You can get some good gm gears for around $3000 and have them installed at a reputable place in your area. Most people charge about $60/hour and it should be done in about 2-3 hours tops.

Holy crap 3000 bucks <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0"> I know you meant 300.
I agree 4.10's is a good place to start. Headers would be a good choice to since they would compliment any future mods.

2002SS is right. But you will need a HPP3 to recalibrate your speedometer and while you are at it go with a 160 thermostat.

The are lots of things you could do for less than 800. Examples of things that cost less than 800 are: MAF, HPP3 and thermostat, Pro 5.0 (you will love this mod) Gears, etc.. Is up to you.

Make sure you get some Tires for those 4.10's <img src="graemlins/formula.gif" border="0" alt="[Pontiac]" />

You could buy a cam kit for $800.
Installation is another story if you don't do it your self.
I agree also that headers are a good choice. <img src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Just my $.02 - The very first things I did were to get rid of the obvious aggravations.
1 - Eliminated the skip shift.
2 - Got rid of the factory shifter.
3 - Installed 4.10 gears.
4 - Bought HPP3 to reset speedo. Power tuning lost 7 hp on the dyno, so I don't use that part.
This should approximate your $800 budget.

I didn't even think about gears. That maybe my best bet. I need tires too. I had a 98 then I got the 2001 it dynoed 324 hp and 337 ft/lbs of torque. I forgot to mention I already have a maf. It made no difference on my dyno pulls. I was kinda pissed but I but it used so it wasn't too pricey.
