I saw your post.

From what I extrapolated from your experiment, a bigger MAF is not necessarily better ; unless you have a stroker motor or possibly a H/C package.

i will concede that a properly tuned MAF is best in any situation. hogging one out and throwing it on is not good. even leaned out my 98.

What the post said was: From an airflow standpoint, there is no benefit to going to a ported stock MAF or 85mm MAF, even with a heads/cam motor like mine.

HOWEVER: I did pick up ET on my '98 Camaro and '00 WS6 by running ported stock MAFs. The reason I picked up ET, was not because of increased airflow, but because the motor liked the extra 3-4 degrees of timing. This was proved on the dyno and at the track. I went faster with ported MAFs...but again, it was because the motor liked the tune-up better, not because of the added-airflow.

IMHO a cheap way to get additional timing (if your engine needs it) is a ported stock maf. I like the 85mm screened maf for my car...part throttle A/F ratio's are dead on and the larger diameter flows well with the screen (also LPE picked up approx 5 ENGINE hp on their ASA engine with the 85mm screen maf vs the 75 mm screened maf...which would be 3 0r 4 rwhp). A no screen 75mm is probably close to a screened 85mm in flow.

I still run a ported stock MAF housing and stock MAF electronics on my car. No issues that I can think of.

From John Juriga GM Powertrain Cheif, commenting on the larger Truck MAF used in the 385 HP 2001 LS6:

"The other changes for the LS6 are the higher-capacity mass air flow (MAF) sensor from the 6.0-liter, Gen III truck engine. It’s worth 2-3hp and its integral intake air temperature (IAT) sensor simplifies the engine controls and reduces cost."
