Default SI7 cam question...

I am getting and LS1 in the summer and most likely trying to get a cam as next year's christmas present...I was thinking something along the lines of the torquer v3 or SI7 from speed inc...None of the threads i searched on the SI7 gave me any valuable info, so I was wondering if anybody knew about it? I am sure by next christmas TSP or SI will have newer cams, but for now I am lookin at these two...Anybody have any input besides the fact that the Torquer v3 is proven...Also, this will be a cam only setup...thanks

Well, I would get most of the supporting mods first.

of course, that'll be this summer and up until christmas...i plan to have full boltons and a stall matched to the size of the cam...of course the valvetrain will be updated with the necessities as well...

The V3 cam (231/234 .643"/.598" 111 LSA) VS (SI7 238 244 .605 .612 110) cam...

**** it, go big or go home... But hell, just read your post again and you are talking about X-mas in 2007? So, post up then.

yea, i am new to the LS1 game...LT1 and vortec 5.7 previously, but i was just curious in case i strike some luck money wise this summer....I don't know much about cams...I read all the stickies, but not sure which numbers for the cams are better, I understand LSA but not sure how the lift and durations affects it, any help would be appreciated..Someone mentioned a cam only SI7 layin down 425, is that true, I can't find the thread again...

Well, cam only is with all supporting mods I am sure. The SI7 cam seems pretty big for a 347CI, I mean, my quick search cam up with guys using it on a LS2 and a 383. It can be done but is going to take ALOT of tuning.. Its not all about the cam but all about all the supporting mods together.. I would pick the V3 and build off that.

There are guys on here runnin 22X cams and miled AFR's hittin 450+.

there are many other cams that have specs similiar to that, which appear to do well in the stock ls1 motor (plus required bolt-ons and stall) like the ms3, ms4, trex, lg cams etc... are you set between these two or are they just 2 cams you happen to come across...

i haven't had experience with any of the cams so i can't offer much help other than my own research when decdiing if i wanted to go cam only or not, but a quick search will show alot of results and i'm sure many threads of people with "cam polls"

i have searched threads for cams and stuff but have jst not found any info on something like the SI7, I have seen other cams, and i have other choices, but I dropped the idea of an MS3 because I heard its better up top, and I want a torquier cam for the street...I like the MS4, but I think it would be more beneficial in a heads/cam package, and I don't feel safe running that high of a lift...Also, I have seen that the Trex is more of a drag cam whereas as i stated before, I want a nice torquey street cam...I was also looking at something like the G5x3...thanks for the input so far...

Well, ALL cams would be beneficial when adding better heads... MS3, MS4, SI7, G5X3, G5X4 are all cams that hit peak power at 6500+ rpm...

I have the X3 and love the cam so far.. I have it shifting at 6600 now. I could go hire but do not want blow out my rod bolts.

I figure with a set of TrickFlow 215cc heads the rwhp should be north of 450 .

The highest # ever was 509 I believe with ET heads and 1 7/8ths headers on a GTO.

With your combo I would expect 390 give or take before doing the heads. It could even be a few less.
