Exclamation UHOH! What did I break?!?! HELP

I am currently breaking down my engine, gettng it ready for my head/cam swap....

tonight when I was scraping the gasket residue, I see this:

Then I see this thing plugged in to a plug just danglin back there:

I attempted to remove the valley pan to get better access to this plug but when I try to lift the cover up they seem stuck to the block:

My concern is that I have really screwed something up....what is this and how do I get it out? ALso, will I hurt something if I try nd remove the valley pan??

Thanks

another concern I have is all of the dam plugs in the back of the engine bay...i took my LS6 manny off in preparation for the FAST 90...however, the FAST 90 has no provisions for ANY pipes, only that sensor...what gives??? where do I run the pipe that comes from the brake booster?

Those two sensors in the valley pan are knock sensors I believe. You should be able to unplug them then unbolt them with a pretty big socket then pull the valley pan off if memory serves me correctly.

It is not a knock sensor, its the oil pressure sensor. I broke mine too when i was installing my heads and cam. It was $41 and most autozone, kragen etc... will carry it. I recomend that you replace it before you put the manifold back on because you will have to take it off to get back there, well at least i had to. I believe you have two knock sensors that are located in your third picture underneith those black plastic things. Good luck with your install

That sensor,, the broken one is the oil pressure to the PCM. Also,,,, the knock sensors have to come out before the valley cover can be removed. Remove the electrical plugs and you can get a socket on the top of the knock sensor.

I just removed my oil sensor to replace it with an AutoMeter sender. You are welcome to it,,, although it’s from a 1999 C5 and it looks a bit different so it may not work. BTW,,,, I’m in Cooper City.

Thanks!

I think they use different connectors for the 1997-2000 and the 2001-2002 uses a different connector because when i went to the parts store there were different two different part numbers for those two years.

I do not want to have to remove the valley pan if I do not have to...LongBeach told me that a special socket needs to be used to remove that sensor...

You can remove the sensor with a big adjustable wrench if you need to, but i would use the correct tool for it. Just go get the oil pressure sender for your year. they should beable to look it up for you.

Go on down to Lou Bachrhods Chevrolet on 441, they will look the part number up for you. If you need any help I'm also in Coral Springs.

you already have the bolts out for the valley cover so i say just unhook the knock sensors, unscrew them and pull the valley cover then you can just use a wrench or adjustable wrench.

Removing the valley cover wont help at all. THe tool required for the oil sensor is just a deep socket. Check the socket size needed by putting a socket over the piece that is still in the engine block. The depth will have to fit the piece that is broken off.

There's no need to remove the valley cover. Just get the new oil pressure sensor and the socket for it.

Also, you might want to take the header out. I know when I put my heads back on, it would of seemed impossible to do with the header in there. If you pull your steering shaft, don't turn your wheel b/c you WILL break the SIR controller like I did.
