Default Engine Additives: Anyone use them?

Anyone tried slick 50 or Duralube products on their LS1. I have decided not to chance it. Seems like they might raise the BS flag.

None of them work, as a matter of fact, they'll do more harm than good, as many of them will clog up the oil passages.

Most of the parts store type additives are junk. If you really want to do something, run anything by BG. They arent sold at a parts store (except dealerships) because it tends to be pricy (just like snap-on tools). That is the absolute best stuff to run in your car, including fuel injector cleaner and oil additives.

Anything that uses a Teflon as a base for it's lubricating propertys is a big no no! Ever seen what happnes to a non stick frying pan when it gets old? You know how that coating flakes off, well it will do the same in your car basicly. After a while it can cause your oil passeges to get clogged. Things like Slick 50 and Prolong are like that. BTW Prolong is also the name of a male sexual aid that keeps a guy from cumming to quick, so be shure not to get the two confused! There are a few that do work better though. Believe it or not that Zmax crap may work, and it's not Teflon based, also if you have ever used Restor on an older engine it really does stop it from smoking most of the time, but I haven't really noticed any extra power though, and thats on my 90 Caprice cop car with almost 200k miles on it. I tell you one thing that worked to get an old 225 Mopar to turn over after it bined up. We took all the spark plugs out and sprayed WD-40 in the cylinders left it sit overnight, and the next morning it turned right over

I don't think I'll ever use and additive in the oil on this car cause I change it too often.

But, what about fuel injector cleaner? I just put a bottle of Valveoline SynPower injector cleaner in. It's the first I've ever put in and the car just has 15,500 miles. Is this stuff okay for these motors?

Fuel injector cleaner is ok so long as you don't use it too often. Putting it in every 3k can cause more damage, so limit it's use to maybe once a year, or twice a year if you do a lot of driving. The better FI cleaners out there are the stuff with Techron in it and the stuff made by Redline is great too.

I use the Z-Max power system
I like the stuff its clear and no ptf teflon stuff to gunk you up It gave me 2 miles a gallon increase on the highway, the stuff works.
They don't sell it in stores yet. I got mine off the internet.
I bought some for my mom last year ,put it in her car with out telling her.She is always checking her mileage. A couple of weeks later she called me up and mentioned how she was getting 2 miles better on mpg. Some people swear by additives and others swear at them.
