Default cam install

do you have to remove the heads to install a cam in an LS1?

There is no need to remove the heads or intake manifold even when doing a cam swap in an LS1.

so what ? I pull the valve covers,pushrods and pull the cam?.........a guy at the dealer said I had to pull the heads!

Pull the pushrods out, then when you turn the cam the lifters will pop up in the holes and stay there. Then you just pull the cam out. Some guys use long magnets inside the lifter holes to insure that they don't drop in the oil pan.

whats the procedure when adjusting the valves?is like all chevy v8's or is it different?...by the way ..that seems a little risky without the intake off!

No need to take the intake off. For the valves, I believe you just torque each rocker to a certain ft/lb. That's it. I'm sure someone here can tell you exactly. It's alot different/easier than the older engines where adjusting each valve is a pain in the ****. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Lifters are non-adjustable on the LS1. You just torque the rocker arms to 22 ft lb each.
