My bottom end is tired (after 64K abusive miles)
I am getting some oil burning at full throttle and pretty excessive cold start knock these days When I had the heads off the pistons felt pretty "loose" in the cylinders. My prognosis...tired rings.
For those who have done this...what all should I have done to rebuild the bottom end? I'm staying N/A so I'm looking for what I'd consider necessary only.
My thoughts are:
the new 2002 GM pistons (Part #?)
Decent piston rings (which ones??? GM???)
Rod Bearings (GM???)
Main Bearings (GM???)
Cam bearings???
what machine work should be done?
Since the block don't make the power...I want to focus $$$ to areas that DO make power (heads, cam, etc)
TIA

Fireball, why not go aftermarket on your internals? I know most of the GM internals cost just as much as SOME of the top brands out there. Slap some forged pistons in there along with some speed pro rings or something and keep on sprayin the car! They will hold up far better and you can still run N2o without the worries of the GM components. Just a sugestion

well...thats what I'm trying to determine....I'm looking for whats available. I'm not going to spray, in fact my N20 kit is up for sale
but I KNOW my rings are shot and I had some "moderate" damage to piston tops due to broken valvesprings in the past. I'm just trying to get a handle on what I need to get and have done to have a decent rebuild

Get the block to a machine shop that *knows* what they're doing and get those cylinders round.
Good luck on the rebuild!
