Default Here's a new one. Depth of freeze plug in rear of crankshaft?

OK, I'm learning this LS1 motor, and I think I may have 'oversunk' my freeze plug that's in the rear of the crankshaft (just inside from the pilot bearing) while trying to remove the pilot bearing.

Is there such a thing as 'too deep' on this thing? Currently, it's 1.2" from the edge of the hole to the outermost lip of the freeze plug. Is the plug too deep, or is it OK?

I didn't know there was a freeze plug in there at all, but now that I check the Helm manual - it shows one, and it sure looks like one! I thought the crank was solid, but by the diagram in the Helms, it sure looks like it's hollow.

Hopefully that's not too deep, or else...

Well, a little more flipping through the Helm manual answered my question.

The crankshaft oil gallery plug is supposed to be 1.228-1.24" from the face of the crank (where the flywheel bolt holes are). My gallery plug is 1.5" from this face.

So, looks like I get to figure out how to pull the freeze plug and put in a new one - with the motor in the car. Unless someone tells me otherwise...
