Help me pick a Cam! Hey guys,
I am looking to buy a cam in the next few months, but I am pretty clueless as to what one would be good for me. I plan on doing FLP's at the same time too. My car is an M6, and i dont have o worry about emissions. Something else i want is a very aggressive sound. Thanks in advance.

222/222, .566/.566, 112 LSA. Proven performer. Nice lope. No programming necessary on an M6. Can't go wrong with it.

Re: Help me pick a Cam! thanks for the response guys. Those were the 3 i was mainly looking at. (T1, B1, C1) Anyone else have an opinion? Also, what should i do at the same time as the cam (springs, pushrods, etc.). should i just get the Cam and the MTI Valvetrain upgrade? Sorry, im pretty new to this performance thing.

Re: Help me pick a Cam! The cam and MTI's valvetrain package will work well. Last year, I was running the B1 cam/stock heads and really liked that setup. I'm not sure what springs MTI is using now, but I would recommend the Comp 918s w/ the Comp Ti retainers. You can use the stock retainers with those springs, but the 918s and the Comp 772 retainers give you a really light valvetrain, which is a plus w/ an agressive ramp cam like the C1.
Personally, I'll be running the Thunder 224 cam on a 114lsa in the next few weeks. I want to get to the track one or two more times w/ bolt ons and then I'll slide a cam in. <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">

Re: Help me pick a Cam! I was just looking at the comparison sheet on LS1info.com and noticed that they said that the hammer cam sounded stock. I hope not, because i want it to sound mean as hell <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0"> <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0"> Does anyone with the hammr cam want to express their opinion??

Re: Help me pick a Cam! NONE of the cams menioned in this thread "sound stock". They all have a nice and healthy lope in a 346ci LS1. I had the T1 in my 382ci motor and it did sound stock, but that is because the cam was proportionally "small" compared to my engine size.
They all sound great, you will love them!

Re: Help me pick a Cam! Tony's T1 sounded stock through his SLP exhaust on his stock bottom end. I would say it sounded similar to a stocker with a hooker catback. At WOT it got a little louder, but without knowing ahead of time I could have been fooled.
I think all the cams mentioned are mild enough that the exhaust type is going to make the biggest difference on sound/loudness.
I think all of them will be pretty similar, my vote would be for the 223/223 .589/.589 cam TrahnZham has.

Re: Help me pick a Cam! If you want a noticeable lopey idle, then consider a split pattern cam on a 112° LSA. That is why the Hot Cam sounds so mean, 219° intake and 227° exhaust on a 112° LSA.

Re: Help me pick a Cam! The C1 or Hammer cam sounds good... it is lopey, and will let the world know you are cammed. The louder the exhaust? the harder it hits. If you bottle it up... it "can" sound ... well not so lethal. But that is on a QUIET exhaust.
The hammer cam works well for me in a dailey driver, 1/4 mile bandit, street racer, work car.
