Can a good muffler shop could produce a better flowing Y pipe preferably stainless steel for less than the price of say SLPs or Borla Y pipes which go for around $200. I'm seriously considering having one custom made starting with a Flowmaster collector. True duals just seems a bit much in cost to make it net any signifcant gains with the factory exhaust manifolds. The different brands of Y-pipe that are offered don't seem any better for the price!
Has anyone build a custom Y-pipe? If so what's your set up?

If you had headers, I would definitely suggest a custom Y-Pipe. Many of the header Y-pipes have restrictions and/or do not come with true high flowing cats.
In your case, replacing the Y pipe is marginal at best. Save your money towards headers and a custom Y-Pipe to use with them.
