Default Head Gasket Question

I am going to be doing a heads and cam swap this spring. I have bought a set of PRC stage 1 heads and a cam. I am looking for a head gasket that has a thinner compressed thickness than stock. I have looked at Comecis(sp?), but they are really expensive. I was told by some one that mr-gasket made a set that was thinner and didn't cost an arm and a leg. Is this true? If so, what is the part number\compressed thickness, and where can I get them? Thanks

I'm looking for thinner gaskets as well, but are those the correct bore diameter for a stock ls1? Aren't the stock ls1's 3.898" bore with a 3.91" bore for the gaskets? How much of a difference would a gasket with a 4.0" bore be than one with 3.91"?

good question. Im in the same boat. want thinner then stock, dont want to pay alot for cometics, and dont want the sealing issues, or the chance of even. rather just use standard gasket type. but what effect does the larger bore have? will it offset the compression gains of the thinner gasket by effectivly opening up the combustion chamber? or is that part negligible compared to the better quench area you'd still achieve by lowering the combustion chamber surface closer to the piston top with the thinner gasket?

If you look at the link LS1MCSS provided, there is a left and right gasket. I thought the head gaskets were the same on a 99 + LS1? Maybee im wrong?

You're correct. They do list a left and right. The bore would probably be too big on those gaskets. I think I'll just go with cometics when I swap my heads. They might cost more, but the best always does.

I keep hearing that they are the best, but how come there are so many people reporting that they leak? If I am going to pay that much for a set of head gaskets I want some asurance that they will not leak. Just doesn't make sense to me. Too many people reporting leaks with them.

The best dosnt cost more! The best costs about 25 buck for the pair of GM MLS from SDPC.

Im not a cometic fan.

Also those mr. gaskets are fine on a stock bore.
