Default Building a 402

I have very little experience with building engines and I was hoping somebody could help me with this.

What does it take to get a 3.9 bore to accept a 4.0 piston. I know it will recquire some type of boring but will a LS1 block accept this? Or am I better off buying a new block.

As said already, you cant bore enough out of the stock ls1 / ls6 sleeves. You would need the block resleeved, which is very expensive. Cheapest way is to use an aluminum LS2 block, or a cast iron 6.0L truck block.

3.908" is probably the most you want to take your factory sleeves out to on the LS1 block.

If your wanting 400+ cubes you'll need to make a decision between the Iron block which is usually built with a 4.030" piston or the LS2 aluminum block that is usually built with a 4.005"

The Iron is less expensive by about 400 dollars or so, but you sacrifice the extra weight.

If you are interested in building a motor let me know, we have whatever you need and always have motors on the shelf and ready to ship!!

pretty sure you'd be better off to buy a new block.

Darton resleeve kit is like $1500 + installation cost..

you can get a 6.0 block for less than the sleeve kit.. and probably find a nice short block for $1800 out of a GTO or corvette
