Default HELP ASAP!! Oil pan problem

hey everyone,
im trying to drop the oil pan some to do an oil pump swap. ive loosened all 10 bolts around the perimeter, but the damn thing wont budge at all. ive tried prying it, and hitting with a rubber mallet. it wont drop at all. are there any bolts that i missed? im sure ive got all of the around the perimeter. do i need to take out the bolts that come from the bellhousing into the oil pan? whats the deal? thanks for any help!

Don't forget to put them back in when your putting things back together. Also don't tighten things to much either on the oil pan, use a torque wrench if you got one.

i put my oil pan back on tonight...along with some RTV sealant....I did not use my torq wrench...but I basically made them all snug....good enough for me

as far as the pick up tube bolt goes...check this out..i got a closed end 100mm "ratchet" wrench....i dabbed some grease on the head of the bolt and stuck it in the wrench (so the bolt would not fall out.....i postioned it with the wrench, and with a pair of needle nose pliers I slowly turned it into the hole...worked like a ****!

good luck man

To reinstall the bolt, i tied some thread around the bolt in case it fell. Sure enough i dropped that thing many times but it never got far enough away that i couldn't just pull it out. Once you've got the bolt started, give a hard yank and the thread should break.

That damn bolt! My most recent cam install I did i stuffed a few rags right in the oil pan so when the bolt fell it couldnt go anywhere. It worked out VERY nicely. Although the first time doing one i dropped it in the pan.. Big mistage. I had to go fishing for quite some while. Heres a tip.. Put a magnet in the end of some rubber hose. The hose is flexible enough to move around objects, but stiff enough where you can direct it around a little bit. Worked good on getting that bolt out of the oil pan... Good luck with the build!

Hey buddy

You have to drop it to disconnect the oil pump pickup tube from the pump..so you can replace it with a ported pump...which I did...a real PITA..but its ok...ill have BAD A oil press!

another solution to the oil pickup tube problem would be to put a piece of tape on the end of the boxed end wrench.

as for the oil pan, make sure you follow the sequence, and keep on going around and around, because it does make a big diffrence. if you put it in a bind it WILL crack and its not cheap to replace
