3.90 bore with a 3.90 stroke = 373CI any good?

Cheap? I wouldn't recommend offset grinding a stock crank that much. And if you were to buy a forged crank, why get only 3.90? At least get an off-the-shelf 4" crank.
Then just add a sleeved/bored block later <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

If you really want a square motor, an iron block (4 inches + overbore) and an off the shelf Lunati forged crank would get pretty close. 402+ ci depending on overbore.

3.900 crank is a waste since it will cost as much as a 4.000-4.100 stroke crank.
Scat had a few 3.900's lying around, they made them for Mallet. Looking at $2000 + $300 to put a reluctor wheel on there.
Traditional Lunati stroker kit is 3.900 bore x 4.000 stroke.
John
4.060 iron x 4.075 offset ground lunati = 422ci

Why do you like a square motor?
Also, this 3.9 x 3.9 combo would not have a great rod/stroke ratio and the valves would be shrouded.

JS either open the bore up or do nothing. Adding more stroke alone is not going to make you any quicker. Why are you worried about $$ anyway? Is Cartech not giving you the great hookup you were expecting?

Joel I would go with all bore and forget the stroker crank. Waste of $$ in my opinion. Use the stock crank offset ground to give 3.72 stroke and then resleeve and bore to 4.10 fo 393 ci. Would unshroud the valves really well, be a lot cheaper and run faster. If you wanted to keep your stock rod and crank just open to a 4.1 bore with a resleeve for 382ci. Would still make more power and be cheaper.

I like the way Tony thinks about "square/oversquare". But I understand where JS is coming from.
JS, as succesful as you've been with stock displacement, I was hoping you'd keep that trend.
But,no matter how you look at it, C.I. is C.I.
For us "oldtimers" it's hard to forget how strong the 327 was against the overbore 283 & 400s.

You mean you always thought the all-bore was more expensive than the all-stroke 382ci?
LOL!
After all my threads in the past comparing pricing? Its about $2K cheaper..... and more power <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">

Hey, I'm not an oldtimer and I know that fact. I had a very fast revving 327 out of a 65 Vette that was in my '69 Camaro. It ran mid-13s without ported heads, Holley street dominator intake, a large cam, longtubes, TH350/converter and a 650 carb. When I had the shortblock rebalanced with forged pistons, the machine shop offered to buy the motor on the spot and build me up a regular 350 instead. Nope! I used to shift that motor at 7K+ <img src="gr_eek2.gif" border="0">
Oh yeah, it only got 9 mpg. Ouch.

$200-300 to install it at ARE.
Lunati stroker cranks already have the reluctor wheel on there.
Judson's motor was a bore motor with stock stroke.

Okay Tony, how ARE the blocks re-sleeved? I must have missed something. I would have thought a stroker would have been cheaper?
Reiterate some details for this old man. Besides, it could serve as a "primer" for some of us.
Thanks.

Tony,I hear what you're saying. My first non-stock buildup was a '64 vette 327 (with the cannistor filter, LOL).

Truthfully Tony I never really priced it out.
But your have helped me make a decision...
Oh it wont go in the car until Summer time anyway.
I'm gonna run my 346CI first.
Gotta see how much I pick up w/Carteks LS6 S2 H/C I'm hoping for 11.15@121.Will see?
