Default Oil Pressure Question...

Hey guys I have 98 z28 m6. This is a newb question about oil pressure. Is it normal for these ls1's to run slightly below 40psi at a warm idle when you arent moving at all? Mine runs just below 40 and I'm sure this is fine but I was just wondering. When I rev, take off or get on it the pressure builds well just like it is supposed to. I was just curious about idling psi and where it should be. Where do you guys normally run at an idle on the stock engine>?

i am no expert but my 98 oil pump did the same, when i put my cam on i put the ls6 ported and it stays the same at idle about 40 45 ish, but at full throttle i notice a huge difference the 98 would max out at like 50 maybe 55 if it was cooler, the ls6 ported is almost past 70 psi and doesnt drop much past 40 as the stocker would sometimes drop down to 30 ish after a hard pull i hope this helps

unless your idling at less than 30 PSI you have absolutely nothing to worry about. especially if your oil pressure still rises with RPM's.

35-40 psi at hot idle is nothing to worry about. The early LS1 oil pumps supposedly were prone to failure. I would change it out for a stock LS6 oil pump if I were you.
How many miles on your '98 Z28?

I've got 94.5k on it right now. Thanks for the replies guys. Sorry about not searching. I had the posting without thinking bug going on because normally I love to search rather than post. (obviously by my post count lol). The main reason for the question also is to decide whether it is worth my time, investment to put one in with my cam install. Its in the near future and I want to accumulate parts. I was thinking that a ls6 pump would do a great job with a smaller cam. Right?

The LS6 pump will do the job with any cam.

All I run is an LS6 pump as well. Not ported/shimmed or anything. I had debated porting it, but I was more worried about getting it all together and driving it.

Don't have any issues here. I think warm idle is a hair over 40 on the guage and goes up from there to 60 or so. I feel confident enough with that. When I rebuild a forged whatever for this car next winter, it may or may not get something better than an LS6 (at that point, I may spring for the ported/shimmed stuff).

Well, no. If I'm gonna get any heads on, it is gonna be AFR 205s 59cc and a 231/242 .643/.610 112+2
That will get me the extra 20rwhp I so desire.

But there is another monster lirking in my mind
a 243/247, .629/.629 112+4, I'm itching to put this one on with a 4800 stall.

just shy of 40 psi hot idle is pretty damn good actually. Im right about 45 psi hot idle with a ported shimmed ls6 pump.
