Default Ported oil pumps...ARE vs. the rest

I know a few different places offer ported LS1 oil pumps besides ARE, I think MTI and MMS do plus possibly others. I’m doing a cam swap and I’d like to change the oil pump too, so which one does everyone recommend? I was going to get the ARE, but maybe I’d be better off with a different pump? I think the MTI pump is cheaper?

And another question, when you buy these pumps, is there a core charge?

I got mine from ARE - there is no core charge.

I got an ARE as well, but if I had it to do over, I'd go with MTI or Katech. Not sure what the MTI costs, but I think the Katech is around $125 or so. Back when I bought mine, I ended up paying $170 + $45 shipping.

Unfortunately, mine still reads at 18psi at hot idle during the summer.

ARE here as well. Not a significant PSI difference over my stocker, but I replaced as a maintenance item (along with putting in a Katech & Cloyes timing chain setup) during the cam swap (at 46k miles).

I paid $125 shipped for new, never installed from someone in the classifieds.

What are the benefits? Just higher oil pressure? I've never even hear of this mod.

Can't speak for the others, but the ARE works great.

Many stock oil pumps have been known to take a CRAP! When your oil pump takes a crap, your engine takes a crap shortly there after... Then you crap your pants when your realize you have blown your engine!!! DANG, that's alot of crap! LOL

Maybe it is a small percentage, and GM figures its cheaper to just replace the motor (if still under warranty). But if its your engine that blows, it will suck BIG TIME! Maybe you will get a new engine from GM, maybe you won't.

I know if i ever crack open the front of my engine to swap cams, I will put in an aftermarket oil pump like ARE's.

Makes me nervous just thinking about it...

Some people have only 18psi and some have +20 over stock. That is a lot of variance. Why???

I'd imagine that this would not increase PSI, but ensure that there are no casting flashes to break off and get into motor.

Does anybody have the MTI pump? I have a friend that's trying to get an ARE pump and it seems to be impossibile! He's had it on order for over a month...

From what I understand the Katech and ARE pump are infact the same unit, sourced from Katech?

Cany anyone verify/refute this?

I don't know about the others (MTI/MMS - never seen them)
